RINO-Care is Crony-Baloney [aw!m vanity]

Posted on 03/11/2017 1:46:02 PM PST by Arthur Wildfire! March

Ready to 'hear' something completely insane?

The Establishment is actually claiming that competition across state lines would increase taxpayer spending.

When you hear something that wacko it's either to 'punish the USA' or to 'reward cronies'.

Just imagine cronies getting to buy up desperate insurance companies. Most current healthcare insurance companies would pull out their fingernails for a little cash. Buy them up and you get all of their vital research DIRT CHEAP ... and then?

You get to enjoy a statewide monopoly to boot.

Those who have plenty of money but no talent or business savvy can simply buy into record profits by calling key congress critters and greasing a few palms.

It's just 'Crony-Boloney'.

I speculate that someone had cobbled added expenses with 'crossing state lines' in some legislation proposal. After all, how else could they say something so stupid with a straight face?

I could hear Gomer Pile explain it: "Shazam! Crossin' state lines costs taxpayers more money? Well, awwwalllll ... be!"

Here's the technical side of reconciliation legislation [bypassing the need for 60 senators]:

http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/briefing-book/what-reconciliation

[1]

[quote]

The George W. Bush tax cuts were passed using reconciliation procedures. During the short time that they controlled both houses of congress, Democrats reacted by passing new rules that prevented reconciliation from being used to increase the deficit. After Republicans again took over, they repealed those rules, so that reconciliation can now be used to reduce revenues, but not to increase entitlement spending.

[unquote]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other words, crossing state lines would be FINE if legislated without extra goodies. We could have a separate piece of legislation regarding this one aspect BEFORE RINO-Care. Then we would achieve something significant in healthcare this year.
... but ...
Ryan wants to do it bass-ackwards. Ryan wants to cram the stinky ideas down our throats and promise to have a vote over crossing state lines on some future year.
Why?
Because he's full of 'crony-baloney', short and simple.
And for that matter it was Ryan who had scheduled all of this [just ask Sean Hannity]:
A blitz to ram through a stinky healthcare bill in March without any open deliberation in advance. And then ... maybe tax cuts in August.
Ryan had told Hannity about that schedule well in advance. The only difference is that the Speaker had lied to the Han-Man about what Ryan's RINO-care would look like.
Why did Ryan want to go to war with conservatives first and then vote on a tax cut later? The tax cut proposal right now is easy, but discord after mucking through this brawl will divide republicans and make future legislation more difficult.
Bottom line:
Paul Ryan is a snake in the grass.
In the meantime conservatives are baying like confused hounds making unreasonable demands. That plays into his hands. "Just repeal" is a siren song. Goes nowhere, frustrates realists, and provides a smokescreen to hide what's really going on.
Yes, simply repealing would be the best long term solution to healthcare, but you are more likely to catch a unicorn. Not happenning. Only a wacko politician would want to be blamed for deaths due to untreated health problems [especially the most easily treated ones].
But when you can't destroy a great evil outright you temporize it [Machiavelli]. I've worked on several wedge issues already as have others.
We can tear it down brick by brick. For example -- grossly self-inflicted injuries -- worst of the worst of the worst. Who should pay for some 500 pound slob to be treated and awarded disability because he's too fat to walk?
How about kicking that fat pig out of the clinic and onto the curb until private charities put a muzzle on his mouth, feed him health food through a straw, and give him a place to sleep and fart?
When you ask similar tough questions, wings of mercy start to get plucked.
But that's going to be a long fat man slog [or waddle] just like the abortion issue.
... NOW ...
What can we achieve this year legislatively?
If we could simply increase healthcare competition this year, that would be YUGE in itself, something all reasonable conservatives could get behind.
Like an old fart once said:
"Follow the money, sonny."
Stamp out the cronyism -- cut off their gravy train -- and you drain the swamp.
And if this corrupt crony network is rewarded for its evil -- they grow like a cancer:
1. More money means more power for more corruption.
2. Each year of success means they become more experienced.
3. And they keep getting better networked each year.
4. The blackmailing element also grows -- more goods on more key politicians.
Please note: this chance to cash in on cheap monopolies is once-in-a-lifetime. They will grow by leaps and bounds if Ryan's RINO-Care is passed.
Interstate competition or bust!
This is about as bad as what we currently have. You’re replacing one form of cancer with another.
I was afraid of this.
The original problem is in the states. We wouldn’t need the ability to cross state lines if the state legislators permitted it. But they won’t because there’s too much money in this. And that’s why we need drastic action. But our Congress isn’t going to do it either because they’re just as corrupt.
Donning tin foil hat
Start Theory....
It is possible that Ryan & Co put out this “plan” as a trial balloon to gauge support for a complete repeal, or a step down approach to ending ObamaCare. Start with the step down approach and see how it is received by the public. If it flops (which it is) and the demand is total repeal, then move total repeal forward because they now have cover/political capital from the public. The mediots and democRATS will howl, but with a groundswell of support after the election to move forward with total repeal will strengthen their hand.
Remove tin foil hat.
OTOH, maybe Ryan and his GOPe handlers are that stupid.
My single issue decider on this is whether or not Congress will subject themselves to the new bill or opt out. If they will agree to be subject to the same rules as the rest of us, I say let’s give it a go.
I don’t understand why Trump and Pence are backing Ryan’s plan.
Paul Ryan is certainly corrupt, but I believe McConnell is even worse [openly declared war on the Tea Party]. That’s probably why Trump has to jump through Ryan’s hoops to get a tax cut.
Note that McConnell is already saying that we can’t get tax cuts by August.
We need a strong economy to have any healthcare at all. Doctors need money.
So in Trump’s view, we get tax cuts this year — or bust! Then next year we work on increasing competition and bringing free market values as much as possible back to healthcare [along with deregulation].
I just hope Ryan can help Trump overwhelm RINOs in the Senate over tax cuts. AND I hope that Trump distances himself as much as possible from this fiasco, making it clear he always wanted something better.
‘We wouldn’t need the ability to cross state lines if the state legislators permitted it. But they won’t because there’s too much money in this.’
Maybe I’m not seeing something here, but the good news [if I interpret this correctly] is the Commerce Clause. States can’t regulate interstate commerce. That was handed to the Federal government — primarily for the purpose of de-reregulating it, and that is exactly what Trump wants regarding insurance competition.
I don’t think Ryan would willingly risk his head on the chopping block and turn his entire career into a trial balloon.
He must be getting coaxed/pressured by corrupt forces.
Oh they will say they also are in this plan too. Legislation will cover it in a very cushy way. And they will be certain that the public is fooled by such a cheap gimick. [But no one will be.]
I was hoping they would do the tax cuts first. All the optimism in business, expansion and hiring plans, is based on promised tax cuts and deregulation.
‘I was hoping they would do the tax cuts first.’
Trump had the momentum prior to this fiasco to really hammer any senate RINO who opposed tax cuts. Could that be why Ryan’s schedule front-ended RINO-care?
I would imagine that Trump, coming from the business world, gets frustrated having to deal with the all talk, no action career politicians just to get anything done. Like I told my boss once, after yet another long meeting with our managers when we were trying to implement some new agendas, that if those managers were in charge of the Lewis and Clark expedition we would be speaking French now.
I think you’re probably right, but could see an out: I’m *guessing* they can’t disallow sales of insurance. The stickler would then be that they do demand what benefits should be in the policies. That winds up being the same thing as not allowing sales in other states.
One common example of benefits is the requirement in some states that medical insurance must include wigs for hairloss after cancer treatment. The cost of stuff like that adds up, which is one big reason insurance is more expensive in some states than others.
“The stickler would then be that they do demand what benefits should be in the policies.”
If this were a water dispute, one state might not be happy with its water level or arsenic level, but as I understand it the federal government ajudicates the dispute.
So if the federal government forbids state mandates and [btw] threatens to pull federal funding if state mandates get in the way [or simply calls them illegal] I don’t see how the Constitution could empower states regarding an interstate transaction?
One logistical thing to consider is this — it takes an army of lawyers to muck through progressive healthcare legislation. Trump was denied a proper legal team in the DOJ until Sessions was sworn in, and even then it was riddled with Obama-ites.
Pediatric dentistry, birth control, abortion, maternity care, sex change procedures, drug rehab, gay fertility treatments,...there’s a long list of things required in some states that I don’t want or need and shouldn’t have to pay for others.
