Startup to Serve Up Chicken Strips Cultivated From Cells in Lab

And it pretty much tastes like chicken, according to people who were offered samples Tuesday in San Francisco, before a planned big reveal on Wednesday by Memphis Meats Inc.

Scientists, startups and animal-welfare activists believe the new product could help to revolutionize the roughly $200 billion U.S. meat industry. Their goal: Replace billions of cattle, hogs and chickens with animal meat they say can be grown more efficiently and humanely in stainless steel bioreactor tanks.

Startups including Memphis Meats and Mosa Meat, based in the Netherlands, have been pursuing the concept. They call it “clean meat,” a spin on “clean energy,” and they argue the technique would help the food industry avoid the costs of grain, water and waste-disposal associated with livestock. Scientists from those companies have already produced beef, grown from bovine cells and made into a burger and a meatball. Until now, chicken hasn’t been produced using the method.

Few are going to knowingly purchase this. People want real food.

Their best hope is consumer ignorance. Just like non-U.S. NAFTA meat and GMO, they're going to need to fight any mandatory labeling laws.

Few are going to knowingly purchase this.

Which is why they will lobby for new labeling laws to ensure you never know.

This has been coming for a while.

Animals are not designed to produce meat. There is quite a bit of waste involved in the mostly natural process.

It is not unreasonable that meat could be produced more efficiently directly.

No bones, nt skin, no feathers, not alimentary canal, nervous system, or sensors.

Many have been forecasting this for years.

Memphis “Meats” website is nothing but a couple of press release with a few words in VERY LARGE fonts.

And, BTW, it’s very unlikely that vat grown meat-product will contain vitamin B-12, so if that’s the only “animal” protein you eat, you’ll eventually die from pernicious anemia unless you supplement with B-12 pills, as is the case with ALL current vegans.

Stem Cell Steak.

It will come, and it will feed billions without hacking other animals to death.

Deal with it.

They are not going to make hamburgers or fake steak with this stuff.

They will probably first use it in things like dog food or other low uses. Then work it into other specialty foods.

Astronauts will grow this stuff on the way to Mars. It will mean carrying a lot less foodstuffs with them.

If this catches on look for a near extinction of food animals. Then when “experts” realize this food is not only unhealthy, but deadly, there will be notbing to eat. The UN must be behind this.

I don't know how "clean" it is. But I can see why they didn't go with "green meat"!
