KINGSPORT — Bird watchers helped rescue a bald eagle from the South Fork of the Holston River this week after witnesses say the eagle was attacked by Canada geese defending their nest.
The feathered skirmish took place Monday evening along the riverfront section of the Kingsport Greenbelt, starting on land near a goose nest below Riverfront Seafood. Witnesses say the eagle fell into the river after being attacked by a flock of geese, with the geese continuing to attack the eagle in the water.
Birding Kingsport — the local bird watching club — had been out along the Greenbelt and were wrapping up their meeting when they noticed an eagle entangled in some limbs on the island behind Riverfront Seafood.
“The geese were attacking it,” said Rack Cross, vice president of Birding Kingsport. “It looked like (the eagle) was scavenging a goose nest (near the restaurant), it got entangled and four or five geese were attacking it.”

Is this “technically” an act of war against the U.S. from Canada? I mean... if it is.. we do need some of their natural resources. I love real syrup... (adding a /s tag.. although I don’t think I really need to) :)

Actually, the geese are native and so is the eagle.
The geese have become ubiquitous nuisances. The eagle certainly came from down river a few miles on the US Army Holston Army Ammunition Plant preserve.

The bald eagle is back with a vengeance. There are more now than ever. It was likely looking for trout, its preferred food. But it’s not above taking out a gosling. In fact it would have little trouble taking out an adult goose. Its just when they gang up on him he may have trouble.
This is a full grown eagle. And I am sure that he is not happy in a dog cage. An eagle needs a huge enclosure. It wants to be on a branch and needs enough space to open its wings all the way. My guess is that they kill him.
The only way to deal with Canada geese is to nuke them from orbit.

Are we witnessing a coup by the geese to replace the bald eagle as our national bird by a goose ............will the eagle escape the veterinary coop in time to escape the goose coup and establish once again his place as our official ass kicking bird.......?
The geese were trying to protect themselves and their young from this heartless predator who swoops down from the sky and snatches innocent animals and tears them apart alive.

Notice the bizarre use of euphemism:

Eagles do not use the same materials that geese do for their nests.
I would be remiss if I did not note that geese are just as “heartless” and just as willing to kill “innocent” animals as eagles are.
Turn loose a young mouse among a flock of geese, and see how long it lasts.
Nature is indeed cruel and heartless, “red in tooth and claw”. Life and death are intertwined, and there is very little sentiment in nature.
