....The lens surgery helps readjust the nerve signals in the brain to access the remaining healthy parts of retina. The Eyemax Mono technology will be introduced to UK surgeons at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists annual meeting in Liverpool next month. More than 5,000 surgeons from around the world have already asked for the technology. The procedure, which can take up to five minutes but which was achieved in just 60 seconds with June, will be made available to eye surgeons across the UK and ....

Sounds like a wonderful procedure. I hope it’s not patented or copyrighted.

What do you think the world would look like if no one could benefit economically from having invented valuable technology?

You are probably surrounded by inventions whose patents ran out long ago and which continue to benefit mankind long after the inventors have died.

Do you drive a car? Own a computer? Take a generic medication? Without the economic incentives, would any of these things exist? Thomas Edison found a thousand ways NOT to make an effective light bulb. Who would have gone to the trouble and expense without some period of exclusive rights to such an invention?

I was fascinated several years ago when I ran across an early microprocessor chip that was being manufactured in the Soviet Union. (Remember them?) It was a copy of an early Intel 8080 chip. Would you rather live in the former USSR or here in the U.S.? I know what I would choose and why.

I’m sure it is, but the article says it’s rolling it out across England and they have socialized medicine so I’m thinking it can’t be that expensive. Maybe even about the same price as cateract surgery? Let’s hope!

Don’t drink and post.

We don’t know if they were funded by the government or university or private research.

Patents and IP are not as sacrosanct as believed. I would like to see google, twitter, facebook et al, have all their IP and patents stripped.

They have become news media and information choke points.

Considering how OAPs are treated in the UK, and how hard it is to find openings in assisted living facilities there, my bet is that the UK realized this may be cheaper than providing a higher level of care for pensioners. Even so, bet there will be a very long waiting line for treatment.

Next step: the parasitic medical profession will exploit the breakthrough - - finding ways to charge $8,000 for the five minute procedure... with the backing and blessing of corrupt 'insurance' companies and politicians who feed off the fear of blindness.

I have no problem with people making a profit - in a competitive environment.

Too bad the auto industry didn't exploit and 'protect' car breaking systems. People who fixed breaks could be license, trained for years, and charge $8,000 for a 'brake job'. You don't like the price? You and your family die.

That's our medical profession...

An IOL is the standard implant, Intraocular Lens in 2015 was $2,178 per eye, it has issues, it does not fix astigmatism, in many people it causes it, then you have Dry Eye Syndrome to contend with. Yes that is part and parcel with cataract implants, and you still need glasses. If you are Medicare there is just the IOL available, and you are not able to upgrade. Then the issue of finding a good surgeon comes into play. Get the wrong one, you are asking for TROUBLE. Do your research, never use an Optometrist, for eye health, it’s not their field. Have eye issues start with a Othomologist, he/she will then send you to the cornea, retina specialist if necessary.

Lasix is $5K just had it done to correct the wrong cataract implant in the left eye, and make both eyes see at the same distance and strength, and get rid of the astigmatism the cataract implants gave me. I will still need multi-focal glasses as age only lets them correct so far, and while he got 95% of the astigmatism he was not able to get it all. Early May is target date for actually getting glasses IF the idiots don’t mess up the lens when they order and cut them, see the Othomologist in a couple of weeks for my refraction. But DRY EYE SYNDROME doubled, it is the down side of Lasix. That and it is only good for 10 yrs. Even with out glasses I see better up close than I did with glasses since the eyes are now considered healed. It is a rougher procedure than Cataract implants, you are totally awake and can smell the ‘hair’ burning smell when they shave off the top of the cornea cover just leaving it barely attached. 30 mins in most cases. They give you 10 mg of Valium, which is a joke as a relaxer.

Treating Dry Eye Syndrome is a life time issue that can turn into an infection easily.

FDA approval is estimated to be around 2095 barring any hiccups in the processing.

“These people cured macular degeneration, it seems.
It’s a workaround, not a cure. “

I agree.

I’ve been reading and researching MD for several years. I have my own theory based upon reviewing the journal articles on MD.

There are two types of MD, wet & dry. The difference between the two are that the wet MD include capillary leakage as a result of the VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) which circulates in the blood stream and promotes capillary growth in areas of the body where there is hypoxia. Dr’s inject anti VEGF drugs like Avastin into the eye to stop the leakage, but the fix is temporary.

The diagnosis for MD is when the zeaxanthin in the macula is diminished and it is replaced by drusen. Zeaxanthin is one of the two primary xanthophyll carotenoids contained within the retina of the eye. Within the central macula, zeaxanthin is the dominant component, whereas in the peripheral retina, lutein predominates. (these are the two primary ingredients in eye vitamins.)

My own theory is that the deficiency of zeaxanthin, which functions as an oxygen reservoir causes hypoxia in the eye when there is insufficient oxygen in the bloodstream, which in turn causes deterioration of the receptors in the macula. Current research supports this as zeaxanthin supplementation has been shown to actually reverse MD.

This is why individuals with sleep apnea, smokers... are more likely to have MD.i.e. oxygen starvation.

I do medical intuitive work and quite a few years ago, out of the blue I asked a woman with MD in both eyes what her mother died of. I asked this after observing severe bruises on the woman’s legs. Her reply was anemia.

Of course I replied, your hemoglobin is not transporting sufficient oxygen. (The woman I was working with had anemia until she went through menopause) this in turn was the root cause of her MD. There are several influencing factors, but I always try to find the root cause of illness.

By the way, I do not diagnose or prescribe. I educate people and send them back to their Dr’s with specific questions.

I recently met this woman mentioned above again and after several years her eyesight has improved and she has not been getting the Avastin shots in her eye every month as she had prior to our meeting.
