"One of the primary missions of the Seaver Autism Center is to investigate causes of autism. We take a genetics-first approach to this investigation." Dr. Buxbaum is most likely biased to his belief that autism is "genetic" since I am sure he gets $$$ to prove it is.

On the other hand this peer reviewed study was recently published, http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0300060517693423 Abstract The wide range of factors associated with the induction of autism is invariably linked with either inflammation or oxidative stress, and sometimes both. The use of acetaminophen in babies and young children may be much more strongly associated with autism than its use during pregnancy, perhaps because of well-known deficiencies in the metabolic breakdown of pharmaceuticals during early development. Thus, one explanation for the increased prevalence of autism is that increased exposure to acetaminophen, exacerbated by inflammation and oxidative stress, is neurotoxic in babies and small children. This view mandates extreme urgency in probing the long-term effects of acetaminophen use in babies and the possibility that many cases of infantile autism may actually be induced by acetaminophen exposure shortly after birth."

I am posting this in honor of Autism awareness month. The media censors any and all information about VAXXED, here'a a link to their website. They have documented over 6,500 cases of vaccine injuries including autism and death. Please be aware and do your research, don't assume that the drugs are safe just because a doctor wants to inject them into you.

From the link above. “We can all agree there’s nothing more important than the health and safety of our children…
Parents should be informed about both the benefits and the risks associated with vaccines — without pressure, propaganda, or agenda.

So we brought together more than 60 of the world’s foremost health experts to investigate both sides of this contentious debate to give you the science, the history, and the untold story… the REAL information you need to make an informed decision on how to best protect your child.

The Truth About Vaccines is a 7-episode documentary series that airs starting April 12 – 19. Register above to get special access to watch the whole thing for FREE.”

I think the final episode is showing today but I believe they will have all 7 episodes available for viewing later.

Yes, because autism is SO BAD that we who have it should have died from disease instead, rather than inconvenience anyone else around us. Everyone knows that our lives aren’t worth living.

DISCONTINUING anti-depressants is associated with higher rates of autism.

There’s a very special warning in that claim: Researchers first noted the high rate of anti-depressant usage among mothers whose children had autism. So natch, everyone stop using your anti-depressants as soon as you find out you may be pregnant, right? Well, no: THAT was what was causing the autism, apparently. Mothers who STAYED on the anti-depressants they had been taking all along did NOT have a higher rate of autism.

As for all that anti-vaccination crap: BULL!

I won't even click on the link! What a crock! Pure logic, honey: you cannot have a genetic epidemic!!!

By sheer logic and science, there is something destroying these babies' neurosystems from their environment. This could be toxins in utero, it could be the number of vaccines given to infants without their own immune systems (some are harmed and some are not - why? Could it be the right bacterial biome of that baby, or his genetics?), it could be products, foods, pesticides, we just don't know yet.

Only an idiot could believe that the epidemic of autism spectrum is purely due to genes.

” There are numerous, very compelling epidemiological studies that have clearly disproven any connection between autism and vaccines.”

This is an outright lie. There have been CDC Scientists who have come forward and admitted that they faked the numbers to cover up clear connections between vaccines and increased incidence of Autism in African Americans.

I think that it is common enough that maybe a few thousand expecting parents could be recruited for intensive monitoring with 100% coverage child health insurance so drugs and vaccines could be tracked 100%.

One video camera could be placed say in the kitchen and one in the main living area so we would know what the child eats and how it behaves on a daily basis.

Parents that discover they have an autistic could turn over their tapes to researchers.

That’s my suggestion.

It may seem a bit much, but given the severity of the problem, I tend to think intensive monitoring ought to be tried.

“In one study on European perch, diluted concentrations of oxazepam in the water were found to alter fish behavior, leading to increased activity, reduced sociality and higher feeding rates.”

“The fish stopped shoaling, which is a type of fish behavior used to keep schools of fish together and avoid predators. The fish also took more risks, venturing out to explore more often on their own.”

Kids have a lot more toys nowadays.

They don’t have the same attention spans as a result.

The article in incorrect in stating that the alleged link of autism to vaccines “has been disproven.” It WAS proven that mercury in vaccines was not causative for autism, and mercury has since been removed from all vaccines, regardless.
However, vaccines, in general, cause a high level of distress to the body, especially in children. There is some evidence that combined vaccines, like MMR may be especially damaging, and are especially linked to appearance of autism. A few studies have shown that children who were not vaccinated at all (Amish), or who did not receive any combined vaccinations, had NO autism.

The real reason for greater numbers of Autistic kids is the epidemic of undiagnosed autoimmune diseases affecting the mother.

More anti-vax hooey?

FYI, that journal article that you referenced actually discounts vaccines as a contributor to autism. The article specifically mentions acetaminophen as a potential contributing cause—although it is not convincing. For one thing, it mentions adverse effects of acetaminophen in animals without mentioning doses.

The etiology of autism spectrum disorder suggests a strong genetic component modulated by many genes. In the case of most genetic conditions, having the genes is necessary for the condition to occur, but do not cause it. The condition actually happens because of an environmental factor that would not affect a person without the genes, but strongly affect a person who does have the genes. For example, some children are born with a defective DNA repair enzyme which causes them to develop permanent skin lesions upon exposure to UV light. But if they are never exposed to UV light, their skin will remain intact.

In the case of autism, the genetic contribution is complex and will take many more years of study to figure out. If environmental factors are involved, they likely act early in fetal development.

How could genetics possibly explain a 45x increase in autism since 1975?

I am no “anti-vaxxer” but it seems to me that this makes more sense:

Childhood vaccinations given in 1975: 13
Childhood vaccinations given in 2013: 36

“There is strong data indicating that genetics are a predominant cause of autism.”

I know nothing about the science relating to autism, but the genetics theory seems “off” to me. If it’s genetic, why was it uncommon, rare, or even nonexistent a few decades ago? Now it’s everywhere. It seems that there is another reason. Maybe environmental. Maybe it’s because babies and mothers have less interaction now than they used to, so proper bonding isn’t accomplished. (Mothers can’t even hold babies on their laps in a car, and cars can be frightening to babies.) Or... vaccinations.

“Genetics” makes no sense (to me).
