EMP Question
vanity

Posted on 05/14/2017 8:30:57 AM PDT by hardspunned

I have been aware of the serious effect an EMP attack would have on our country for some time. I recently read a most terrifying book, One Second After, and am now motivated to better prepare my family for this possibility. My question regards the viability of a 1987 Toyota 4x4 truck with a 22r carbureted engine. I have been told there is a vulnerable component in the non electronic ignition system. My understanding was that old coil, distributor system was safe.

I have the opportunity to purchase this vehicle and would like to be sure that it can be counted on if needed.

If an EMP takes us out, a disabled car will be the least of your problems.

Where do you think you are going to drive on roads clogged by failed vehicles, controlled by “Homeland Security”, FEMA the military, and all other security agencies state and local to allow emergency access vehicles only

You think you’ll have access to state and federal highways and bridges when using them becomes a privilege for the few and the “essential” deemed necessary by the government?

and backcountry roads surveilled by desperate lawless bands looking to hijack anything that moves?

Common sense tells me no man made EMP can be as powerful as a jolt of lightning and yet most everything continues to function just fine. Heck even commercial airplanes get hit by lightning regularly and continue on without incident. That EMP fired from a satellite can take down an entire city — is pure science fiction.

I meant to say EMP generated by a jolt of lightning...which is yuuuge.

Find out if it has a computer, my guess is it does being an ‘87? How are you going to get your gasoline?

Get a Horse or an extra pair of walking shoes and a Bicycle.

Watch this movie “Day After Armageddon”
You’ll be looking into having good hiking boots, maps, mobile water purification, and antibiotics

EMP is vastly over rated for cars. Every lightning strike is a small localized EMP. I have never heard of a nearby lightning taking out a car. TVs, radios, computers yes. Cars no.

Your spark plugs radiate EMP, so cars have protection built in.

From what I’ve read, the vast majority of damage will be line of sight and travels like FM radio waves and happen instantly. Also, the further away the source is the less concentrated the energy is because it goes in all directions similar to the Sun’s energy.

There are other forms of energy transmitted and I can’t remember all of the details. There is a lot of information out there to research.

“Common sense tells me no man made EMP can be as powerful as a jolt of lightning “

Yep. Another goodie: If EMP can take out all things electronic and electrical, just how did we capture in video, sound, and electronic measurements EMP in the first place? Wouldn’t EMP have destroyed those things?

Yet, airplanes flew, ships sailed, and electronic measurements were recorded.

“If an EMP takes us out, a disabled car will be the least of your problems.”

Perhaps if you read the book, Right Brother, you would have modified your answer. It is a fascinating book based on scientific fact made more interesting by the fictional drama. The book is written by a man well familiar with EMP creation of disaster.

Apparently WASH DC up to Baltimore is “hardened” and probably other areas as well...but I bet dollars to doughnuts your area is not if you live away from the seats of government.

What will you do the day after an EMP and how will your neighbors react and your local FEMA confederates of power try to impale you on their previous power? What type of tyranny will be imposed by their will when there is no government limited by a constitution or Bill of Rights?

To put it mildly, an EMP strike “neutralizes” the flow of electrons in anything that needs a flow of electrons to operate.

Your car battery will be neutralized. Your starter will be neutralized. Any and all electronics in any car will be neutralized. Motorcycles with kickstarters won’t work, the magneto will be zapped.

Anything and everything electronic, unless stored in a Farraday cage, or built to milspec stqandards regarding EMP’s, will not work, to include anything flying in the air.
(Look out below!)

The world will be flung back to the 1700’s in a second.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. That includes everybody’s little laser sight on their personal defense weapons, too.

Get spare parts that you think will fail.

Vacuum seal in plastic to protect from moisture.

Place in a metal Ash/Garbage can, they’re EMP proof. (electronic tools too)

After SHTF replace failed parts.

Just turn you home into a giant Faraday Cage and disconnect from the power grid and you are home free.

Of course there wouldn’t be an internet, and you will be under siege if everyone can see you have your AC going.

Just turn your garage into a Faraday cage, then any vehicles parked there will be safe from an EMP.

Yet, airplanes flew, ships sailed"

The ships were made of wood and the men were made of iron.
