These finds tell the story of the last battle between the Roman forces and the Jewish rebels who had barricaded themselves in the city, a battle that resulted in the destruction of Jerusalem, the Antiquities Authority said.
This battle is described by the historian Flavius Josephus [born 37 CE]: On the following day the Romans, having routed the brigands from the town, set the whole on fire as far as Siloam (Josephus, Wars, Book 6:363). According to Nahshon Szanton and Moran Hagbi, directors of the excavation on behalf of the authority, the ballista balls were fired by Roman catapults used to bombard Jerusalem during the siege of the city. The arrowheads, they said, were used by the Jewish rebels.
Another section of a street some 100 meters long and nearly eight meters wide, paved with large stone slabs, was previously exposed in the excavations.
The archeologists said advanced research methods reinforce the understanding that King Herod was not solely responsible for the large construction projects of Jerusalem at the end of the Second Temple period.

History is mind blowing. I drive a truck for a living and see historical things all the time. I made a delivery today to Shelter Island which is a very small island off of Long Island New York, and these people I delivered to where very BLONDE which I rarely see. They had blonde eyebrows, eyelashes, looking almost albino until they told me they were direct descendants of the Dutch who moved to that island in the 1600s and who were sugar merchants. I was like daaaaamn, how messed up is that? They have been breeding on that island ever since. It reminded me of Pitcairn island where all the descendants are from the mutineers of the Bounty, but this is much earlier. It was bizarre. Adults and teens with that extreme blonde hair like something out of Star trek.
Jews in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago or as I like to say “1,400 years before Mohammed was a gleam in his dog mothers eye” Who is occupying who?
Looking at the last picture on the web site given it looks like this excavation is taken place all underground. Could some one verify this for me.
Cities that are thousands of years often have this. As cities are destroyed and rebuilt it is common to just build on top of the ruins. This is not unusual at all.
In ‘78 -’79 I was stationed in the Azores in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean about a thousand miles from anywhere. We became friends with a guy from a very large family where half of his siblings were dwarves. They built half of their home with rooms about four feet high. That was two floors in the space of one normal floor for us. The inbreeding through at least 500 years of mostly isolation made dwarfism common.
I was there 4 years ago.....underground. Completely amazing.
Well, the Siege of Jerusalem was in 70, so the memory of that must have still been fresh. :-)
You might have seen that I was responding to GJMYoda about isolated genes on an island.
Wow that is bizarre, real life Hobbits! LOL
Interesting. According to wiki, the island was part of the original land grant made to the Plymouth Company, by James I of England in 1620. Later purchased by a Nathaniel Sylvester (an English merchant) who did have Dutch roots, having been born in Rotterdam.
Yes! I saw a sign that said his name Nathaniel Sylvester. I though that was a strange name for Dutch. It was wild though, I asked one of the girls how long her family had been living there and without batting as eye she said “Oh about 350 years” I thought she was kidding but she wasnt, and told me her anscestors dealt in sugar cane. She was really hot looking to, pure blond and pale blue eyes. I don’t if there is any inbreeding that went on there but it was strange how almost all of them were pure blonde, it reminded me of a Star Trek episode.
LMAO!! That’s the one! Yes, they must feed Vaul!
