SLIPPERY ROCK (KDKA) Three African nationals from Cameroon are facing charges in an organized, intra-national internet fraud scheme uncovered in western Pennsylvania.
According to police, large amounts of money were wired through Western Union and MoneyGram at various locations in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
Authorities say among the allegedly crimes, the men were selling boxer puppies online out of a student housing complex in Slippery Rock.
Police say the total is at least $20,000, but it is expected to grow.
We have at least 10 victims, and were expecting a lot more, said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper James Long.
Lawrence Njabon Francis, 37, and Lawrence Nana Tchakounte, 26, attend Slippery Rock University on student visas. Both have been arrested and bond has been set at $100,000.
A third man, Emmenuel Nkwate, 31, entered the country through Mexico claiming refugee status. Police are still searching for Nkwate.

Well, I guess they got the idea from their neighbors, the Nigerians.
The Boxer puppy I am representing was left the equivalent of 200 million dollars US by his eccentric owner. Because the owner wasn’t a US citizen the Cameroon government is holding up any wire transfers. If you are willing to help us move the money to the USA you will be eligible for a 10% fee for your services. Please respond right away, a puppy’s life may depend upon it.
But I thought immigration “enriches” us.
Diversity! Internet fraud is not just coming from our good friend in Nigeria any more.
The puppy scam has been around for some time with English Bulldogs topping the list. They find some cute pictures on the net and advertise the puppies for sale. A 1500 dollar puppy selling for 750 is quite a bargain so they send in a deposit to hold the puppy until they can make arrangements to pick it up, Money gone forever! Or they come up with a sad story about having to give up their dog for a variety of reason and only ask for shipping costs to make sure it goes to a good home and loving family, Money gone forever!
I always thought it was a different, typically solo activity that kills puppies. That's what my mother always told me.
Of course it does, they’re only doing the scams Americans won’t do, the drug dealing Americans won’t do, and the raping Americans won’t do. It’s a win win. See? Dieversity makes us stronker!
My favorite mag cover ever. Sorry I never saved the original I owned.
Cut'em some slack. This was just a "lone
wolf puppy" incident.
I'm starting to worry about getting my 30 mil from that Nigerian prince. Oh well.
