Q:

What were the five mass extinctions in Earth's history?

A:

Quick Answer The five mass extinctions in Earth's history occurred at or near the end of the Ordovician, Devonian, Permian, Triassic and Cretaceous periods. Four of these served as the effective border between one period and the next, while the Devonian extinction occurred over a period of 20 million years in the Devonian twilight. The species lost in each extinction ranged from between 60 to 96 percent of life on Earth. Continue Reading

The Ordovician extinction occurred in two phases, destroying 60 to 70 percent of all species. The cause was most likely continental shift triggering global cooling, devastating the oceans which were home to all life at the time.

The Devonian extinction was a prolonged event, with as many as seven different waves of extinction occurring by the end of the Devonian period. The causes were most likely varied, but in total the events wiped out 70 percent of all life on the planet.

The Permian extinction was the most severe in Earth's history, with 96 percent of sea creatures and 90 to 96 percent of land creatures becoming extinct. It may have been caused by a combination of environmental collapse and a catastrophic event.

The Triassic extinction remains a mystery to paleontologists, but over the course of 10,000 years, 70 to 75 percent of all life on Earth vanished. The Cretaceous extinction is the most famous, as it heralded the end of the dinosaurs. At least 75 percent of all species on Earth became extinct, most likely from a series of massive asteroid impacts and the resultant climate change.

So, we know none of these changes had anything to do with coal fired power plants.

Well, I’m sure Gore can read his bank statements, as he rakes in the dough from pushing global warming.

Maybe off topic, but when governments and companies buy carbon credits, where does the money go? Does Al Gore and other investors who got into the carbon credit markets early on, get the money????

It’s really a question of perspective. Michael Crichton put it bluntly that even if the human race died out, life would still go on.

We know no such thing.
Is the "cause" sentence a scientific finding? Or an editorial comment by a graduate student with an agenda and a very narrow "science" window?*

He is supposed to have made $100 million selling his TV business to Al Jazeera. I guess that munch dough only fuels one’s hunger for absolute power.

***even if the human race died out, life would still go on.***

The Biblical Creator began life ‘in the garden’ and it does seem that the most dominant creatures perished in these extinctions. I wonder where flora, insects, birds and humans fit into the order.

Turning to the Bible for answers is always enlightening.

He tried to claim Georgetown, Texas is some sort of conservative bastion in the heart of the oilfields that is just all in for green whatever.

Lying POS. Dont even feel up to a rebuttal.

Oh he can read, all right. Even the "not cursive" chick could do that.

But have you ever seen a detailed MRI of his brain?
He's missing the cause-and-effect gene, the comprehension gene and anything related to math gene.

Last but not least, he utterly failed the "what is science?" test. With prejudice.

Hogwash! There was ONE extinction; The Noahic Flood. They MUST acknowledge all the fossils in the ground. But the would NEVER admit that God was involved. So they cobble together these off-the-wall stories with no proof to back them up.

And speaking of fossils; Have the Darwinists ever shown us ONE fossil of ONE transitional creature evolving from one type to another? NO! In hundreds of millions of years, the transitional fossils should be UNCOUNTABLE. But there isn’t even ONE! The Bible is 100% true.
