As someone else mentioned, it’s a country top level domain (TLD). For a long time there weren’t many TLDs, and the “catchier” country names were used for some things, especially where the “.com” name was already taken. I expect “gab.com” has been gone for a long time, and someone is probably trying to resell it for a ton of money.

(Yep, if you go to gab.com you get “Domain for sale gab.com@domainsbyproxy.com“.)

“AI” is short for “artificial intelligence”, so that’s kind of cute. Recently a whole lot of new TLDs were introduced, like “.info”, so there are plenty of options now.
