The State of Texas has a robust program for preserving and restoring its beautiful county courthouses -- which have proved to be economic stimulli for the counties that restore theirs.
We were making our county's third (annual) attempt at getting our county government to permit the restoration of our 1861 Courthouse...
Linden, Cass County, Texas
...which had been stymied twice before by a few county officials who objected to removing a 1980s addition -- "built like a trailer house"...

At the (third, annual) special Commissioners Court meeting on the subject, Don stood up to speak -- and, he sounded like a cross between a top Baptist preacher and a well-educated Senator!
At one point, he even pointed at me and said, "My good friend, [TXnMA] reminds me that it was Einstein who said,
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
And, one time when we were having coffee, he asked how much more we had to raise to reach our restoration funding goal -- and, when we told him ...he just reached for his checkbook...
