A startling image of elderly women in a Texas nursing home surrounded by waist-deep flood waters, covered by blankets and sopping wet personal items stunned viewers on social media Sunday morning and prompted an emergency evacuation of the facility.
Galveston County Commissioner Ken Clark told ABC News that 20-25 residents at La Vita Bella Nursing home were safely evacuated from the flooded building in Dickinson. David Popoff, the citys emergency management coordinator told Galveston County Daily News they were rescued by helicopter.
Timothy McIntosh, whose mother-in-law owns the nursing home, posted the photo and pleaded for emergency help.

Oh God....it’s not like they didn’t know this was coming. Shame on the nursing home.
In the old days....every town had a listing of hospital units and old-folks homes, and rescue folks automatically centered on both of these in the first hours of an emergency. So, tell me who the mayor is...and can I guess which party he belongs to?
There should also be a post with a picture of a child in the womb that states:

Life is precious on both ends of the spectrum.
Good point. Why did they wait? This would have to be extremely distressing to those wheel-chair bound elderly.
Shame on the local bureaucrats and public safety types who didn’t enforce an evac. And any family members who didn’t raise holy Hell.
I would probably take their license away and get those folks into a home that cares.
Well, they are white people...sooo...
...who took Harvey to rehabilitate...
LOL. That makes it sound like HTHH is going to the slammer.
Well, Harv was hanging with some FOX News watchers, and there was booze and meat on display. Clearly HHTH was being subjected to some very bad influences!
Shame on the mayor who told everyone to stay put and knew his city flooded with 3 inches of water. The state was telling everyone to evacuate along the coast. This was done on purpose.
And I’d have a few choice words for local bureaucrats and law enforcement. BTW, that nursing home may be a public, not private, facility, run by the city or county, for instance.
Don't forget the owners of the assisted living home who didn't seem to care.
And where were the families? My mother was in a nursing home for 2 years and I would have rescued her on Thursday!
Am I a bad person for finding this amusing?
Keep in mind that may be a public facility. If so, that would explain a lot.
Miss M, not all folks in assisted living/skilled nursing facilities are fortunate enough to have family that cares nearby. That said, there is this little thing called a telephone. If any family members used it to call the cops, the city and/or county to raise Hell, that info has not made it into the news.
This is preposterous, get her a tub of Heinekens.
In fact, IIRC, families are supposed to be notified of any emergency.
Empty popcorn machine appears stable...
I refuse to go the way of these folks, ashamed for whomever manages the home and the relatives of those poor folks.
I bet all of their “kids” were spoiled rotten children.
