Thank you for that. Had not heard of Monte Hellman.
Low-budget early 70s cinema is always interesting even if not great.

Cheers,

Kind of weird how many actors of the recent “Twin Peaks” died soon after filming their parts. Harry Dean Stanton is the latest.

"He was in at least 2 other movies with Warren Oates, Two-Lane Blacktop"

In 2-Lane Blacktop HDS plays a gay hitchhiker.

Oates gives him a ride and HDS puts his hand on Oates' thigh.

Oates then snaps: "I ain't into that!"

IDK why I always thought that was such a funny scene.

Probably because I couldn't picture HDS as gay.

The guy who wrote the screenplays for Tom Horn and Missouri Breaks lives just up the road. Smart dude.

Read a piece by him once about the horrors of working on Breaks with Brando, who basically lay in bed all day and sent over demands for changes in the script.

The next day he’d change it all again.

If you’ve never seen Rancho Deluxe you have to give it a try. A farce, but a good one.

I remember him from “Alien”. He was great.

Brando was certifiable - no, never seen Rancho Deluxe. On the list, now

It was filmed hereabouts.

Let me know what you think.

Might be too off the wall for some. But man, the world looks innocent back then.

The boys are driving past a trailer park, and Bridges asks Waterston if he has seen the movie “Cheyenne Autumn”. Says, “100 years from now they’ll make a movie called “Aluminum Autumn”.

In fact what we have here now is Billionaire Autumn. I prefer the trailer parks (we still have those too) myself.
