A baby born earlier this month to a Michigan mother who died after she refused brain cancer treatment so her child could live, has also died, the family said on Thursday.
Life Lynn DeKlyen, who was born on Sept. 6 at 24 weeks, died overnight, the family posted on Facebook:
It is with great sadness and an absolutely broken heart that I tell you Life Lynn passed away last night. Carrie is now rocking her baby girl. I have no explanation of why this happened, but I do know Jesus loves us and someday we will know why. The grief we feel is almost unbearable, please be praying for our family.
The babys mother, Carrie DeKlyen, made national headlines when she found out earlier this year she was pregnant with her sixth child only weeks after she had been diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressively malignant brain tumor, according to MLive.com.
For DeKlyen to continue cancer treatment she had begun as part of a clinical trial, DeKlyen would have had to terminate her pregnancy.
She didnt want to do that, her sister-in-law told People, even though her husband, Nick, says her doctor told her she would die if she didnt receive immediate treatment.
Life Lynn was expected to remain in the intensive care unit for at least four months because she was not gaining weight as quickly as she should. On Sept. 18, the family said doctors found a small brain bleed that is sometimes found in 24-week babies.
A GoFundMe page for the family has raised over $150,000.
What a lovely woman
heartbreaking, but they are both together and at peace.
That is incredibly sad.
Prayer sent for the family.
May God bless the father, husband and the family. Mother and child are together again with God.
“No greater love...”
Rest in Holy Peace, loving mother and sweet baby.
How do you know that?
What a beautiful woman
I plan to hug her and tel her how brave she was one day
I’m looking at late August of life if I’m lucky
Definitely a solid 9 plus in her earthly form
She tried, should be no regrets.
Another life is precious.
99 percent of my life despite all they bring to the table I find women very frustrating and difficult no matter how much I love and desire and cherish them
The older I get the more I understand biblical views on women and the role women used to play making more sense than the convenience culture make believe they inherit now...you listening Ivanka princess honey?
Then I see this story of this girl and I know there is hope for women ...that some truly shine selflessly
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Prayers for her and her precious baby..
How do you not know that?
There’s no greater bond between the quintessential female and her child.
So unbearably sad. A tragedy.
