Okay, that's fine.

So for all other drives (other than the boot drive), I would have to explicitly format in HFS+, because the default would be to format in APFS. That's okay too -- one should always "measure twice, cut once" when formatting. :-)

I can verify that OSX 10.13 does run on a flashed Early 2009 Mac Pro, I also have a flashed nVidia GTX 960 installed, and everything updated just fine.
Now to see what other features are new.
