American Made premieres this week, bringing two reunions with it: Tom Cruise and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, and Tom Cruise and his ever-growing age gap with his female co-stars. Sarah Wright (who plays Cruise’s wife in the film) was born in 1983 just a couple months after the premiere of Risky Business, making her 22 years Cruise’s junior. Which is somewhat uncomfortable.

My brother is 62. Last year he married a 32 year old Mexican Cutie. And yes, she is stunning.
Frankly, it makes no sense. When I was turned loose by my wife of 20 years at the age of 43, I dated some under 30 women. I had nothing in common with any of them and could really not relate.
I ended up finding the woman of my dreams at my 25 year high school reunion (and no, we never dated in high school). It’s been 19 years of marital bliss. and she’s six days younger than me. We’re both 63. I’d have it no other way.

These days I will be standing in the checkout line looking at the fetching young women on magazine covers, and the first thought that crosses my mind is “she’s probably my daughter’s age.”
