The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, which educates healthcare professionals and the general public through research publications, lectures, and the internet, on ways to reduce breast cancer incidence.

The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute was started in 1999 by a scientist and three physicians to educate women and medical professionals. Our website was launched in 2002.

Prevention is paramount because even early detection and a high cure rate won't spare a woman the trials of surgery, chemotherapy and the emotional toll on her and her loved ones. BCPI is dedicated to our commitment to educate women and medical professionals of ALL the established risks, well-known and lesser-known, of breast cancer.

Despite the widely held belief that it is unknown what causes breast cancer, the fact is most breast cancer risks are dependent upon lifetime exposure to estrogen and the age at which a woman matures her breast tissue through pregnancy. We hope that you will start to learn about the biology of the breast that makes it susceptible to breast cancer by first reading "Breast Cancer: Risk and Prevention booklet." It will give you a good overview to understand that it is not just bad genes, or family history that causes a woman to be at risk.

Much of the recent surge in breast cancer, especially in young women, is attributable to avoidable risks. Armed with full and accurate information, women can make healthier choices that will minimize their risk of breast cancer. These choices involve life style strategies and dietary strategies.

This information can be found on our website through our many resources including our booklet, our many brochures, Fact Sheets, videos, Youtube video, semi-annual BCPI Report, and News items. Some are also in Spanish.

All of our information is free to read online. We rely on our readers and supporters for donations to provide for the development of more materials and to maintain this site.

Unlike Susan G Komen, which supports abortion and Planned Parenthood, this organization gives facts to prevent Breast Cancer.

Many pro-lifers oppose Susan G Komen because of their ties to Planned Parenthood and Abortion.

This organization is different, it uses MEDICINE, SCIENCE and EDUCATION to prevent Breast Cancer.

My Grandmothers prevented breast cancer the old fashioned way.

Between them they breast fed and raised 22 children.

Didn’t read the text. Does this board of ‘truth-tellers’ mention that induced abortion is a prominent cause of breast cancer?

Or that birth control pill is on the CDC list of carcinogens in the same category as cigarettes?

That is an excellent lineup of directors. I instantly recognized some of the names as men and women who are ethical to the highest degree.

Several of the directors are researchers who have made exactly those connections.

This is NOT a science-based organization that benefits breast cancer patients. This is more pseudo-science from a guy (NOT an oncologist, NOT a physician with expertise in breast cancer) who is selling supplements:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Brind

He may have opinions on abortion that are valid, but abortions do not cause breast cancer.

Breast cancer, like ALL cancers, is a complex biological error that does not have a single cause, nor a single manifestation. Lifestyle can certainly be a factor in the development of certain breast cancers, as estrogen-positive cancers are fueled by adipose tissue, which contains estrogen. There are many different types of breast cancer and even within a type, there are multiple subtypes, each with unique characteristics that drive their development.

Please do not support organizations that are not actively involved in cancer research to treat and prevent breast cancer, particularly stage IV (metastatic) cancer. Metavivor is a reputable national organization that gives grants directly to scientists doing research, but your local breast cancer centers are the best places to ask about how to directly fund research efforts.

I agree with you about the Komen foundation and the whole “awareness saves lives” is way overblown. The only thing that saves lives is treatments for stage IV, because that is the breast cancer that ultimately results in death.

Good. Those connections are important

The financing in breast cancer is big pressure.

Big pharm has its tentacles out and intertwined. I’d say since the 1950s WH England BCPs became the future for them they’re not going to let go easily

abortion is a proven NEGATIVE factor in breast cancer.

The SCIENCE is simple. Pregnancy starts the growth of the breasts. Abortion is like crashing a car into a brick wall, violently halting the growth of the breasts.

The focus of this site is PREVENTION through MEDICINE and SCIENCE.

You must not have a SCIENTIFIC background...

I respectfully disagree. Just as the left has agenda-driven organizations, this is an agenda-driven organization on the right.

As a Catholic, I agree with their position against abortion. It is murder.

The organization is a thinly-veiled anti-abortion group. They should openly admit that and not prey on cancer patients and their friends and families for donations that do nothing practical to prevent or treat the only breast cancer that kills people , which is stage 4 (including men, by the way, who last I checked do not have abortions, use birth control pills or HRT).

The people on the board of directors are NOT experts in breast cancer and they have an agenda, while laudable, should not hide behind the facade as a breast cancer “research” organization.

I hope that breast cancer patients and their families and friends will support true research efforts they investigate as legitimate after consulting with their local and trusted breast cancer physicians. The link provided in this article is hopelessly out of date and the “science” published by the so-called expert Joel Brind is from the 90s.

I am not a scientist, but have enough background in science and statistics to recognize legitimate peer-reviewed research vs personal convictions.

The science of breast cancer is absolutely NOT simple. Nor is the science of any other cancer.
