I was initially impressed with Lombardo. Now I think he’s just a tool of the FBI. And a rather dull one, at that. He looks like he’s torn between telling the truth and keeping his job.
Or staying or of jail, or much worse.
Lombardo is an elected Sheriff. He answers to the voters of Clark County, if the election were held next week he would be out of a job.
A few days ago, I said he was instructed what to say by the feds and a FReeper rudely said he wasn’t. I still stand by he’s just a tool. People are more likely to believe their local guy over the FBI. Sadly, he may be voted out of office (do they vote for sheriff there?) if the story continues to flip flop.

I watched the coverage unfold (mostly on RSBN) and I agree that Sheriff Lombardo did well during the initial hours. There were rumors of shooters up and down the strip. Total chaos. He got the basic facts out at a time of serious mass confusion.
I’ve been to Vegas a half dozen times and in my experience the LVPD has been a pretty competent bunch in dealing with a very rowdy town.
Dunno what is happening now though. It reeks of FBI fubarism.
The FBI is forcing him. They’re obviously controlling the situation there and he is being pressured beyond human endurance, no doubt. He’s like a man in a vise.
