In those days, great Black musicians, who could master an instrument, instead of scratching a turntable and spewing profanities, would lovingly interpret amazing pop songs written by White, and especially, Jewish songwriters.
At a time when racism was still a legitimate issue, there seemed to be a lot more genuine mutual respect between White and Black culture. And a lot more self respect within each group.
