Deliberately and intentionally.

To: I want the USA back

someone said yesterday that a majority of the mass killers in the us were atheist- don’t know if it’s true or not- If so it’s no wonder the msm are not mentioning it because they don’t want it exposed that atheism results in increased propensity to murder

It is not simply the atheism of the shooter.

It is that this entire country has turned away from God.

The media are on the front lines of moving God out of our culture.

I dislike the general term, “the media” because the First Amendment excludes government enforced standards of objectivity. The only format of publication which has even a notional obligation to truth and fairness is nonfiction. We are not going to outlaw fiction, so there is little to be gained by whining about movies and TV drama. And there is only so much good to be done complaining about nonfiction books with which I disagree. A nonfiction book may be wrongheaded, but it is a stationary target for rebuttal, and unless there is a libel issue, there is no legal recourse.

But journalism is a horse of a different color. First because it claims to not be fiction, but more important is its pretense of objectivity in the face of journalists’ self knowledge that journalism is negative. Journalists know that “If it bleeds, it leads.” Journalists know that bad news sells. The implication of claiming objectivity—in knowledge of their own negativity—is, quite simply, that journalism is cynicism. You will be hard-pressed to come up with a better definition of “cynicism" than “the conceit that negativity is objectivity.”

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But cynicism is an antonym for faith.

As to the secular implications of journalistic cynicism, the fact is that nobody can be cynical about everything. Quite simply, if “B” is an antonym for “A,” and if someone is cynical about “A,” that person will perforce be naive about “B”—or even actually have faith in “B.” Journalism is cynical about society, and accordingly is naive towards—or even has faith in—government (the two first paragraphs of Common Sense dispatch the conceit that society and government are synonyms, and point out that they are much more nearly antonyms).

And the combination of cynicism toward society and naiveté toward government is, of course, precisely what is observed in socialists everywhere.
