Not trying to be snide, but you need to keep in mind that Win 7 support is winding down fast and will soon disappear just like XP did. You can’t get updates for any XP browsers oer security and 7 will be there in a couple of years at most. the push to 10 is unstoppable, we will be absorbed just as the Borg do.

I preferred Windows 7 and would go back to it if I had to buy a new computer. But (as has been noted already) Support for it will dry up soon. You mentioned that you’re like me and a bit unknowledgeable about the finer points of computers, but if you do want W-7 then learn to turn off the automatic updates.
BTW, my local Office Depot will sell a copy of W-7 and you’ll never need to deal with Microsoft again. I haven’t asked, but I’m sure they’ll install it and turn off the updates too.
