Verify: The healing power of poop

If I told you there's a new kind of medicine that could heal you, but it was made from germs, would you take it?

If you’re open to the idea – or maybe because it sounds gross – then hang with me and let’s start here. We see germs as a threat, and we've gotten really good at killing the ones that cause infections with things like hand sanitizers and antibiotics.

In fact, since 1950 the rate of infectious diseases, like measles, mumps and TB has plummeted. But during that same time, chronic diseases, including asthma, diabetes and Crohn’s disease have skyrocketed.

Is there a connection? Could it be, we're so obsessed with killing germs that we're making ourselves sick with other illnesses?

HOW BAD ARE GERMS, ANYWAY?

This comes up on Doctor XM radio from time to time. I found it interesting that doing a stool transplant from an obese person to a thin person will cause the thin person to become obese and never regain their thin body type despite dieting.

Fecal transplants are also used to combat C.Diff in cases where the normal treatment is ineffective.

Boost your immunity and save ton$ by making your own Kombucha:

1. Order a “scoby” off of Ebay —that’s maybe $10

2. Brew up a bunch of common black tea, let cool. Add a bunch of sugar, stir, but into a glass container w/ a wide top.

3. Put your scoby in there, cover with cloth, put in room-temp dark place for 9 days

4. Put into jars with lids or Grolsch bottles

DRINK..!

No more buying from Whole Paycheck

(more advanced —perform 2nd ferment with grated ginger, apples, papaya, whatever)

oh! And take PROBIOTICS.

“Stool transplants” are a real and effective treatment for people who are having certain types of intestinal problems. They are one technique used to help restore a healthy balance of good bacteria in the intestines. But you must realize that what you seem to believe is in the realm of urban legend and not supported by facts.

A good book on this that I’m reading now is call “The Good Gut” by Justin Sonnenburg.

I believe it will reorient medicine significantly in the next 10 years.

Or, you could buy water kefir grains on the internet or most health food stores and make your own double fermented kefir water and get tons of healthy probiotics and beneficial yeast and bacteria that will colonize in your gut, building your immune system and aiding your digestion. The grains, like a SCOBY, grow. You only need to buy them once. It’s healthy, delicious, and easy and fun to make. And cheap; you just need some filtered water, a few tablespoons of organic sugar and some organic fruit juice. Oh, and some of those cool Grolsh bottles.

It is not urban legend. Not sure where you heard that. It is now a requirement to exclude obese stool donors and to tell stool recipients during informed consent that they may gain weight as a result of the transplant.
