In a new study, a Yale-led research team uncovers how a very low calorie diet can rapidly reverse type 2 diabetes in animal models.
The research team investigated the effects of a very low calorie diet (VLCD), consisting of one-quarter the normal intake, on a rodent model of type 2 diabetes.
Using this approach the researchers pinpointed three major mechanisms responsible for the VLCD's dramatic effect of rapidly lowering blood glucose concentrations in the diabetic animals. In the liver, the VLCD lowers glucose production by: 1) decreasing the conversion of lactate and amino acids into glucose; 2) decreasing the rate of liver glycogen conversion to glucose; and 3) decreasing fat content, which in turn improves the liver's response to insulin. These positive effects of the VLCD were observed in just three days.

It seems extreme dieting three or so days at a time does wonders. I will try to dig up these other studies and post them below.
I know brief periods of fasting seem to help give the organs a rest.
Type 2 diabetes is a reversible condition:

Fasting-mimicking diet may reverse diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes):

Thanks for posting this.
How many calories is very low? Something tells me people would prefer the diabetes. A very low calorie diet will make one slim and trim. Americans don’t know that?
So the too many intimate dinners for two with just me showing up is prolly my big downfall?
Look up Ketone diet and intermittent fasting on youtube.
Hard at first but you feel so much better and after a while the thought of sugar is actually unpleasant.
Not necessary to be fanatical about it.
Well, the diet is temporary, the fixes are relatively permanent.
Bttt
There are books on this subject. I can’t remember exactly what the process is, but it basically sums up as follows: If you fast for a few days, you either die, or you force your body to properly use insulin and properly regulate blood sugar. If you’re Type 2 diabetic, then the second of the 2 happens (your body starts to work properly). I don’t enough to talk about Type 1.
Of course, we’re conditioned (and used to) eating ‘3 healthy (or not) meals a day’, so it’s next to impossible to get people to try fasting, and thus drugs are the only other option. But humans did evolve with the ability to live for weeks off of stored fat...but drug companies did not.
Ran across info on morning blood sugar readings — if they are high.
It could be ‘dawn phenomenon’ or ‘Somogyi effect’. Apparently, while sleeping, the body dumps hormones that cause an increased insulin resistance, thus giving higher blood sugar levels.
I have found mine as high as 140+ in the morning and as low as 98 by 6 p.m. (before eating evening meal).

We have to give up “beards”?
I’m 54 and I take 25 mg. Jardiance and 1000 mg. (x2) Metformin daily, and a .75 mg. shot of Trulicity once a week. My primary doctor put me on a 37.5 mg. daily dose of Adipex to jump start some weight loss. I want on a paleo/low carb diet starting in June (no bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. - lots of meat and green vegetables, no junk food, a lot of tea and sparkling water), and have gone from 266 lbs. to 240 in five months. My oncologist noticed my platelet count, while still dangerously low, is rebounding a little, and the enlargement in my liver and spleen are lessening. I see my primary again in two weeks, and I’m anxious to see where my A1C is now after almost six months of a new diet and weight loss. It was 9.2 in June.

Are you AM or FM?
"Dinner is meat and 2 vets.
Are those Vietnam or Gulf war vets?
Interesting.
Just something simple like not adding sugar to cereals and avoiding drinks with sugar brought my A1C from 8.7 to 5.6 in 90 days along with a weight loss of 25 pounds. The only dietary items avoided are pizza and desserts.
