Twenty years after going to jail for leaving her baby in a stroller outside a New York City restaurant, Anette Sørensen is ready to set the record straight.

Anette Sorensen in 1997.Don Halasy In 2012, she published a novel based on the “traumatizing” experience, “A Worm in the Apple” in her native Denmark, and she has just launched a Kickstarter fund to get it translated into English.

“It’s a way of getting back what I never got,” said Sørensen, who feels she was treated unfairly by the city and the press and didn’t get to tell her side of the story. “I would like [it] if I could just say what I think.”

Look at her story closely and you’ll realize she made a number of really bad decisions in her young life.

I understand this was a common practice a hundred years ago.
Now, it is beyond irresponsible.

She was from a different culture where leaving a sleeping baby outside in a stroller is perfectly acceptable.

A very poorly written article.

I can remember being in Galway, Ireland and seeing prams with plastic covers covering the babies while mom was inside shopping. The shops in Europe are considerably smaller than American ones. Plus, in the 80’s, Ireland reminded me of what I thought America was like in the 50’s. I hitchhiked everywhere in Ireland with no problems.

I agree. The article claims the woman went to prison: “Sørensen spent 36 hours in prison, where she said she didn’t get much sympathy from the other inmates.” There is no such thing as going immediately to prison without a trial. The woman was in jail.

It may be the case that leaving your baby outside a restaurant where you consume alcoholic beverages and enjoy your meal is perfectly acceptable in Denmark. But it seems to me that even the most clueless person would have to notice that New York City has a lot of people in it that should not be trusted. The other women she was in jail with knew that.

I guess it’s kinda like leaving your dog outside. As long as you can see him, right? Perhaps you can get away with that in Denmark, but in NYC? probably not. What right does she have to sue anyone?

“Of course, you should be allowed to put your child outside when you’re sitting behind the window and you can see it,” she said.

First of all, she was a baby, not an it.

Second of all, it doesn’t matter what the laws or customs were in a foreign country. The United States is a sovereign nation, with our own set of laws.

And last, but not least, what’s safe in one environment, is not necessarily safe in another. Would you leave your baby unattended in an environment frequented by alligators? Why would you leave a baby unattended in an area known to be frequented by predators? Having a good view of the resulting bloodbath won’t bring the baby back.

. . . I had been living in Copenhagen, I had given birth to my daughter in Copenhagen, I was raised myself in Denmark .  .  . That’s just how you do it in Denmark.”

I'll bet you wouldn't now. Unless you're even dumber than this article makes you seem to be.

The woman is an idiot, but the untold story is that what was acceptable parenting 25 or 30 years ago may now get you a visit from law enforcement or family services.

Hell- Casey Anthony left her baby drugged and in the trunk of her car while she went to have sex with a man in his apartment while her baby died either from drug overdose, or suffocation or something- and she was found ‘not guilty’

This is her big claim to fame, so she thinks.
The lady has been complaining about this incident for the past 20 years, and still has not let it go.

Her daughter probably grew up hearing the story over and over.
She could finish her mom’s sentences for her if it’s about this one incident. “Yes, Mother, you were thrown in jail just because of me. I’m sorry. Oh, I think we already discussed that day at least three times this morning, and it’s not even Nine O’Clock yet.”

If she ever does get enough money to translate the book into English, she may want to change the title.
‘The Worm in the Apple”, does not sound like anything I care to know more about.

“When she and Wardlaw decided to grab a drink at a Dallas BBQ in the East Village, she did what she would have done back home. She left little Liv outside sleeping in her stroller.”

Her greatest mistake was eating at the Dallas BBQ in the East Village.

I did that once.

Never again.

Heck, I would leave my kid in a stroller in front of a Lower East Side Crack House before I would eat their again.
