They know, of course, but their latitude does not reflect their weather as ours in North America does.

I lived in Europe for several years. Latitude-wise, I was deep into Canada (almost to the Hudson Bay). Weather-wise, no where near that. But the summers had daylight at 10:30pm, and in the winter it got dark around 3:15pm.
