Hope the charity has ideas to use the property wisely and have it sustain itself. christmas tree farm, gar dent o grow some of own food, animals for food. I wonder what taxes are?
Real estate/property taxes don’t exist for non-profits in a lot of areas. If the charity decides that the property will become too much of a financial obligation, they can probably sell. (Some donations have don’t-sell clauses, but I’m guessing Hamels ain’t that guy.)

I suspect it will be tax exempt now that a charity owns it so the local tax collector is going too be hardest hit. Not to mention the school district. There are some unintended consequences of this donation. I bet they sell it.
Would like to know what advice Hamels accountants gave him this gift. Still a really really nice gesture.
