Pac was way down on talent this year especially on the defensive side.
The virtual Championship is a joke no matter who they choose. Until they have a Championship of Champions it is nothing but an ESPN beauty contest.
There are too many bowl games to even try to keep track of what teams are playing and what they bring to those games.
One of our younger adult relatives has a unique memory when it comes to current and past college and pro sport teams.
So I ask him what bowl games to consider watching.
His response this year was to watch Midsummer Murders or something similar.
SEC is doing pretty badly too. Big 10 is dominating though.
It’s a shame the SEC got two teams in the final 4. I guess they have to stack the deck to help better their chances of winning a national title.
With the advent of the College Football Playoffs, the non CFP bowl games have become more meaningless than they were before. There have been a handful of competitive well played games, but for most contests, it is obvious neither team cares.
Pac 12 sucks. USC was good when they had Reggie Bush but look how well that worked out. All they can do is cheat to win. Karma’s a bitch.
I laugh when I hear all these “learned” ESPN analysts say expanding the playoff would be too much for the “student” as athletes. Oh please. In FCS, Division II and III they have anywhere from a 16 to 32 team playoff. I guess those student athletes don’t matter since almost none of them are going to be playing in the NFL, which matters most to the flunkies at ESPN.
Next year. (Go Huskies)
Darnold needs another year or two to mature, so I’m glad he’s not going to the draft.
Not that he’s declared, but it wouldn’t be his best choice.
Maybe if UCLA qb had played rather than lie to sit out so he wouldnt injure himself before draft the conference might have won a game
Funny.
Before they played the game, the talk was all about that selection committee was obligated to select the runner up ACC team and runner up B1G team in the Orange Bowl. No home team favoritism for “The U”.
And the fans were all about “The Turnover Chain”. Because you know QB Alex Hornibrook and their freshman RB Jonathan Taylor are prone to turnovers.
After they play the game, now it is “B1G teams all have higher rankings over their opponents, so they are expected to win”. Whatever!
B1G this year is 7 - 0 in bowl games so far, with one game left. Go Blue!
Pac 12 commissioner Larry Scott is probably satisfied. He is hell-bent for “parity” in the league.
If you follow the SEC, the head honchos require each team play a gimme game two or three weeks out from the end of the season. This gives each team an easy victory and the ability to rest players while keeping their rankings. I was confused this and last year why AL was playing Dinky State U in the middle of a heated conference chase. It makes sense now.
I noticed a trend this year of having a local team (or day trip range) vs an away team in the bowls. It did seem to cut down on the empty seats, but it sort of defeats the purpose of using a bowl game to bring in tourists.
Orange - Miami
Peach - Auburn
Cheribundi - FAU
Frisco - SMU
Bad Boys - FIU
Academy - Texas
Alamo - TCU
Belk - Wake Forest
Music City - Kentucky
Liberty - Memphis
Differences in attendance were particularly noticable between the Liberty and the bowl formerly known as Gator.
There are so many bowl games anymore that they should be relabeled ‘Participation Trophy Bowl 1 thru 40’ or whatever the latest number is.
Fear the Frog!
pac12 didn’t do well. 1-8!
keep that up and your power5 card will be rejected.
Thats okay - the PAC 12 makes up for it by having the absolute worst officials in football.
The Pac-12 will be back, maybe as soon as next year. The ball bounces funny when it's not even a round ball.
Bowl games are not quite meaningless enough, yet. The obvious answer is to create more bowl games, lower the automatic pass to a bowl to four wins and make the sponsorship wide open. For starters, I propose the Porcelain Bowl, by Lysol Bathroom Scrubbing Bubbles.
New Years Bowl pickz
Wolverines over the Gamecocks in the Outback bowl
UCF pulls it off and beats Auburn in the Peach Bowl
The Irish over LSU Citrus Bowl
And in our playoff semis
The Sooners top the Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl
And the Tide roll over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, a little silly that the SEC Champs aren’t in the Sugar Bowl
