...you don’t seem to realize that movie critics are MUCH better qualified to identify good movies than the stupid masses...

I’ve seen all but “Marty”.
I take it you are in the movie entertainment business since most of your posts are related to movies it seems. Is that correct?
My favorites...
1954: “On the Waterfront” #14 - “I coulda been SOMEbody...” Brando’s great scene. But I’ve seen it too many times.
1957: “The Bridge on the River Kwai” #1 - beautiful photography and sharp dialogue. However, I don’t like the undercurrent “anti-war”, pre-hippie message.
1959: “Ben-Hur” #1 - Some very touching scenes, one that I still remember from 60 years ago, when Jesus (you only see his shadow) gives Ben Hur something to drink. Very moving and powerful. But I think it’s too long.
I barely remember “The Greatest Show on Earth” so I’ll have to watch it again!

My all time favorite movie that ALSO won best picture: “The Best Years of Our Lives” in 1946!
Nope. On the whole, I post more about gun rights than films.
The film threads have gotten the most responses, though.
Very little if any politics involved in the 1950’s selections. Lot’s of politics involved in todays selection of the best film of the year.
Hollywood has been getting even with Joe McCarthy for the past 60 years.
For pure entertainment value none of those movies make the cut. Movies are about entertainment.
You should see “Marty.” I saw if for the first time last year. Ernest Borgnine won an Oscar for his performance in “Marty” and he deserved another one for playing Fatso Judson in “From Here to Eternity.”
Where is that other famous movie line. “Yonder lies the castle of my fodder”? (That famous Viking from Hell’s Kitchen NY. Bernie Schwartz?)
You don't find a single one of the Best Picture winners of the 1950's entertaining?
Well, to each their own....
All kidding aside, I watch them over and over again, no F words, no profanity, no naked sex, no CGI, just real acting. Even those B/W B movies were great. The Body Snatchers comes first to mind. I spend a lot of time running through all those old drive in movie films that I would consider C movies on You Tube. All that money spent on the drive in and now 56 years later I actually get to see the movies.
