secret. Said to be spy communications but payload is secret. Patch for mission shows a knight wielding a sword to slay a attacking dragon - the dragon has sword wounds. The prior launch of this type of rocket had a knight wielding a sword and a less menacing dragon without wounds. Supposedly these flight patches have meaning.

Flames shot all over lower half at liftoff.
Thought it was going to blow up.

Earlier they announced that “sparklers” would ignite to burn off excess hydrogen. Even having heard that - those flames didn’t look like sparklers but I guess in terms of fuel comparison, the flames were sparklers compared with launch fuel.

The thumbnail for the video on Youtube shows the patch.

Yeah. That looked scary.
Was it a private company that launched it?

Thought the same. That looked quite wrong at first.

Haven’t seen it yet.

Ah, that means polar orbit as I understand it. That’s how the Keyhole series were launched a lot of the time, if not always. I’m thinking KH-11 and KH-12 series of days gone by.
So it’s a spy bird at a minimum; the wounds are interesting (given your description of the patch)

Launched from US Airforce base and seems to have a NASA type patch.
To: ransomnote
Thanks for the thread, I pulled it up at T-1.

Yep.
They had a camera flash when it was pretty high and that was interesting.
