States crack down on fake service animals

You see a dog enter a restaurant with a vest that says "service dog." How do you, or the restaurant, know if the dog is actually a trained service dog? It's a problem that has prompted more than a dozen states to crack down on people trying to pass off their pet as a service animal. "They make me angry, they really do," said Colleen Belanger. Belanger has a service dog and she is upset people are using fake service dogs. She said it is a growing concern as more and more people are taking advantage of the system. Some dog owners buy service costumes online so they can take their untrained dogs into places they don't belong.

Witnessed this recently at a physician's office. The dog owner freely admitted he bought the 'Service Dog' harness from Amazon and takes his big old pet wherever he pleases.

Fun guy and nice mutt;) Wish I had thought of it - instead of leaving my puppy at the house while on routine errands. However, it's not honorable.

From my perspective, he’s just taking the law to its logical conclusion.

I confess that I don’t know the wording of the law, but it should be limited to “hard” disabilities like blindness, not crap like “depression”.

I see this too often as an apartment manager. The last one destroyed a freshly remodeled apartment.

We will never recover the money.

https://www.petcha.com/why-do-we-love-dogs-the-human-dog-bond/

Although scientists and archaeologists still debate when and where domestic dogs evolved from the gray wolf, most everyone agrees on this: Dogs — our first domesticated animal — formed a close bond with humans about 14,000 to 17,000 years ago.

.....................................................

Just claim it’s natural evolution??????

I have a friend with a MASSIVE Bernese Mountain Dog. He only takes him where massive, sweet dogs are welcome, and he takes him wherever he possibly can. The doggie is a fixture here and is kind of the goodwill ambassador of Occoquan, VA.

Just like all other rules and laws to assist the ‘real’ disabled, this too has been taken over by fraudsters. Think handicap parking with fur.

*****I saw a pit bull in a supermarket.*****

Was it nekkid, or wearing a ‘Service Dog’ vest?

We have become such a pansy society, they consider a service dog one for emotional support. So that little POS in the purse is considered a service animal. Hell, that rat can’t even reach the light switch, let alone fetch slippers and a newspaper. My chocolate lab would fetch anything I asked for, except the cat.

He’s a sweetie, too. If I walk up and haven’t seen him in a while, he goes nuts. His owner says that I’m the only other person that can give him a hug around the neck. His name is Roman.

My pet peeve! [///sorry for the bad pun]

Maybe these people love their dogs more than I love mine. Dunno.

Incident in my supermarket:

Chihuahua with a *service* vest....walking on floor [w/ a woman w/ children]. Dog lifts its leg and pees on the products on the lowest shelf.

With competition for every grocery dollar, as a cranky olde lady, I knew if I complained, the store manager would do nothing about this problem b/c the owner was a person of color.

Incident in 5-star restaurant in a Maine resort:

[I've observed that Maine has become very dog-friendly in many respects, in my travels.]

Table next to us; a lap dog is sitting on the chair at the table; owner is feeding it scraps off the plate in front of the dog. Waiter ignores the scene.

Life goes on.
