VANITY: Veiled Threat, Hoax or Phishing Scam? (Twitter Letter)
Twitter? | 1-19-2018 | ak267

Just received an email from Twitter (see below) about "banning Russian propaganda" accounts. Not sure if this is legit, a hoax or phishing scam. Has anyone else received this email?

I have not clicked on any links about a "blog".

If this is legit, I sense a veiled threat when they mention that I've either visited, liked or retweeted these supposed "Russian tweets". It's as though they've "put me on notice" and they're documenting people.

Dear Stone Cold Timmy,

As part of our recent work to understand Russian-linked activities on Twitter during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, we identified and suspended a number of accounts that were potentially connected to a propaganda effort by a Russian government-linked organization known as the Internet Research Agency.

Consistent with our commitment to transparency, we are emailing you because we have reason to believe that you either followed one of these accounts or retweeted or liked content from these accounts during the election period. This is purely for your own information purposes, and is not related to a security concern for your account.

We are sharing this information so that you can learn more about these accounts and the nature of the Russian propaganda effort. You can see examples of content from these suspended accounts on our blog if you're interested.

People look to Twitter for useful, timely, and appropriate information. We are taking active steps to stop malicious accounts and Tweets from spreading, and we are determined to keep ahead of the tactics of bad actors. For example, in recent months we have developed new techniques to identify accounts manipulating our platform, have improved our process for challenging suspicious accounts, and have introduced new measures designed to identify and take action on coordinated malicious activity. In 2018, we are building on these improvements. Our blog also contains more information about these efforts.

People come to Twitter to see what's happening in the world. We are committed to making it the best place to do that and to being transparent with the people who use and trust our platform.

What a pantload. The leftards are making lists of every account on social media that they don’t like and calling them all “Russian bot” accounts. Some may be, but it is mainly a disinformation campaign from our domestic leftists to try to discredit everything they don’t like.

Number 4 in trending now:

#TrumpShutdown
369K Tweets

No mention of “Release the Memo” or “Schumer Shutdown”. Twitter is a scam run by desperate libs. They're trying to give credibility to the Russian Bot narrative in the “Release the Memo” onslaught.

Reads faintly creepy to me, but I am not a Tweeter
They may want to thin the ranks stat because Trump’s Fake News Awards proved that there are more than just 10 - 12 conservatives in every state. They claim Russia helped Trump win the election because that helps them filter for pro Trump posts - yeah it could be a “cleansing”.

No mention of “Release the Memo” or “Schumer Shutdown”.

I'll bet a lot of money that there are no "500" Russian bots, that the entire thing is a cover story that allows Twitter to control the narrative by deleting posts they don't like under that excuse. They made the claim, let them prove the case.

Given how Stalinist Twitter has been exposed to be, it’s perfectly possible they would have written such a letter. Not saying this one is legit, but the language is consistent with Twitter’s documented behavior.

Look up the SMTP headers (should be a menu item while you’re reading the email).

If the original sending server is one of Twitter’s, then it’s real.

I’ve been tweeting about #ReleaseTheMemo and had twitter open in a tab. I went back to the tab and found it had updated to a notice such as your email and I was locked out. I had to verify my account before twitter would let me back in. I haven’t even tweeted that much. We’re making an impact.

Just because some people didn’t receive the same letter doesn’t mean it wasn’t from Twitter.
