SIERRA VISTA The groomers at Tail Topia and 4 Paws Grooming want to make sure all animals get the love and care they deserve. Thats why this Saturday, the two pet salons will hold the first-ever community dog wash-a-thon to benefit Little Lotus Rescue and Sanctuary. All proceeds from the grooming event will go to the rescue.
The charity event is the brainchild of Nicole Brown, owner of Tail Topia, who said she wanted to find a way to help out Little Lotus, a Hereford organization that takes in animals at a high-risk for euthanasia in southern Arizona. Little Lotus places sick and/or severely injured animals in foster homes as they wait for adoption.
Brown fosters animals with the organization and is a big supporter of its mission. She said the little-known rescue does so much for the community and decided she would find a way to give back to the cause.
I have fostered with them (Little Lotus) before and they take in really bad medical patients and they are trying to build a facility to help house all of these animals under one roof, Brown said. We decided to do the wash-a-thon to help raise money so they can build that house.
Donna Brown, owner of 4 Paws Grooming, said Little Lotus Animal Rescue and Sanctuary holds a fond place in her heart which is why she volunteered her grooming salon for the charity event. Shes been helping Little Lotus since 2013, after moving to Sierra Vista from Tucson.
Aside from grooming her customers pets, Donna also collects and donates dog food for local animal shelters and rescues.
Its been my life goal animal rescue, she said. I used to arrange the rescues for (Little Lotus).
Donna credits her philanthropy to her first rescue pet. Without the cat, she said her life would be completely different.
He saved my life and I saved his, she said. Its just one of those things that I can do Because I have a successful business and its crazy busy I cant foster, but what I can do for the community is collect food and give free groomings for rescues.
Brown said pet owners can come to either location to have their dogs washed and have their nails clipped in exchange for a cash donation. All proceeds from the wash-a-thon will go straight to Little Lotus to help fund rescue efforts.
Customers can also pick up a treat for their pets at Furbabies Pet Bakery, located at 196 W. Fry Blvd., as part of Little Lotus charity initiative. Furbabies will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for owners to purchase a dog treat. Like 4 Paws and Tail Topia, all proceeds from the one-day event will go toward helping Little Lotus.
