Between the 1941 German invasion to the Soviet victory in Berlin in 1945 and the invasion of Manchuria that August, the Red Army would suffer more than 11 million dead and 15 million wounded — a shocking toll unprecedented and unmatched in history. To wage such a war, the Soviet Union relied on a total mobilization of its society and economy.

To treat such enormous numbers of wounded, the job fell to the USSR’s centralized health care system.

There’s little a bottle of vodka can’t alleviate. The Russians understand pain reduction.

Russia’s history is one where they haven’t made the wellbeing of their soldiers a high priority.

Russia only recently introduced socks as part of their soldiers’ kit.

That is a metaphor for everything, right there.

Previously they wrapped hanky-sized cloths around their feet, or something. Others can articulate it better, maybe.

That reminds me of a book my dad (and I) read a long time ago, about the Battle of Stalingrad. He was a huge WWII buff, and probably the reason I majored in history. :)

Anyway, I seriously wonder if any war with Russia will come down to “boots on the ground.” I think it may be some cyberwar; it’s probably going on right now.

(Hey, Russia and NK—don’t touch Hollywood or you will be attacked by a bunch of ticked off Hollywood stars! Madonna in a pink hat will be leading the charge! LOL!)

And if it does come down to physical battle, well then the sh*t has truly hit the fan. I’m not a military analyst, but it’s JMO.

In WW2 the Russians left their wounded to die. They killed more Russians then Hitler did by their poor strategy.
