Amy L. Wax is the Robert Mundheim Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she has received the Harvey Levin Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence. She has a B.S. from Yale College, an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. She is a former assistant to the United States Solicitor Genera.
The following is adapted from a speech delivered on December 12, 2017, at Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C., as part of the AWC Family Foundation Lecture Series.
There is a lot of abstract talk these days on American college campuses about free speech and the values of free inquiry, with plenty of lip service being paid to expansive notions of free expression and the marketplace of ideas. What I’ve learned through my recent experience of writing a controversial op-ed is that most of this talk is not worth much. It is only when people are confronted with speech they don’t like that we see whether these abstractions are real to them.
The op-ed, which I co-authored with Larry Alexander of the University of San Diego Law School, appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer on August 9 under the title, “Paying the Price for the Breakdown of the Country’s Bourgeois Culture.” It began by listing some of the ills afflicting American society:
Too few Americans are qualified for the jobs available. Male working-age labor-force participation is at Depression-era lows. Opioid abuse is widespread. Homicidal violence plagues inner cities. Almost half of all children are born out of wedlock, and even more are raised by single mothers. Many college students lack basic skills, and high school students rank below those from two dozen other countries.

I just thought about this on the way home from church. We have to realize this current scandal is all related to this basic truth. The ENEMY does not want us to live conservative or Christian lives. THe ENEMY does not want anyone in power to project Conservative or Christian thought. The ENEMY does not want us to even be able to express or talk about the problems (the enemy sees it as freedom) or solutions to such. The ENEMY, meaning Satan of course, but also those on this earth committed to our destruction, must be opposed at all levels. We do ourselves and especially our countrymen no favors when we submit to the tactics of our opposition. Hopefully, President Trump is showing us how to oppose. Our prayer is that all this rot is exposed.

Not impressed by this woman. This country was settled by people seeking freedom of religion, plus a new way of life. Many of the original colonies had both black and white indentured slaves. Those who could not afford the price to travel here were indentured. Both sides of my family were here in the 1600’s. This lady can do all her writing, but; I did not read any reference to God/Christianity.
If incidents like what Amy Wax has gone through here don’t end, this business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it.
I really wonder if we aren’t headed to CWII when I see what is going on out there.
What part of her treatise against coercive political correctness did you disagree with? What part of her arguments for reasoned, dynamic, open, and civil discussion on campuses is not in line with your thinking?
Making no direct “reference to God/Christianity” does not mean that her writings were not influenced by Biblical teachings.
The bourgeoisie and the proletariat were terms used by Karl Marx. Karl Marx followers use those terms. No real American does,unless asked about Karl Marx and/or his Commie Manifesto.
I believe your hero is a student of Marx as she refers to the “ruling class”.
Sometimes I like to throw the pop Leftist terms right back in their face but the message is always upsetting to THEM. It surprises the Leftist trendy set to be put down with their own pet words and concepts. They are the “exploiters” and the “controllers” and servants of the “power brokers”.
Agree. Control over what younger Americans learn from kindergarten to about age 22 is very powerful. Look at what common core plus teacher’s unions have done to our kids. Obama had an Education Czar who was a so called NAMBLA type. He stated he was going to teach little boys to be gay/fags. Sad and disgusting.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but satanists want to be left alone to worship as they please. You're referring to devils in disguise. The type of people that would sell out their own family for power. Look at what that monster Soros did. He was a nazi sympathizer and sold out Jews; now he's one of the wealthiest men in the world, and using that wealth to spread evil across the world.
There are truths that cannot be spoken — about blacks, homosexuals, feminists, progressives, lawyers, teachers/profs, programmers, politicians, religious leaders and others. They offend some peole, so just STHU.
