Office romance is Russian roulette where half the chambers are loaded. Just say no.

Office romances are fun and exciting when things are going good. But when they go south it is a guaranteed disaster.

Romances?

Snort.

Likely love has little to do with it.

How many of the unemployed are unemployed because they ended in marriage and children.

More information is needed.

Remember guys, women always trade up, and unless you are the ceo, there is always somebody more up. Also, in any conflict between a male and female, guess which side will by default be defended, and which side has the power of endless and expensive lawsuits available to use as weapons

My office romance lasted 40 years, once we married, we still worked in the same office. No problems, but we decided to relocate to a better part of the state and they lost 2 of their better performers. It was a normal thing, it was a large company where women out numbered men, and there were too many romances to list. No one was ever threatened due to a romance. What went on outside the office remained outside of the office.

In my neck of the woods these...ahem... romances don’t end with marriages and children.

They tend to END marriages WITH children.

Which is why I think love has little to do with it.

A hard lesson learned: “Don’t dip your pen in the company inkwell.”

Ended up marrying my co-worker but we both had new jobs within the year and married 2 years later.
Probably why it lasted this long.

My wife and I worked together. We dated for two years and then got married. I got promoted and transferred just before we married. Marriage lasted 30 years. We’re probably the exception.

I’m inclined to believe it because companies big enough to have HR departments tend to have fraternization policies. And people who intentionally violate fraternization policies tend to be idiots and/or jerks. Which would explain the subsequent exodus from the workplace.

Met mine at choir practice at church. 45 years this year, married and dated for 3.5 before that.

God is good.

And then there are the women who maintain an asexual relationship with a male coworker they refer to as their work husband.

I worked in a company that had 5 marriages between employees. I then moved to another one where the only office relationship spawned a 20 year marriage with two children which is still going strong. I think these stats need a denominator. What are the percentages of romances not between office-mates. And what happens to employees who do not have romances. They also get fired and transferred.

You’re right, mewzilla. I’ve seen that happen many times. The last time, the mistress wrote a nice letter to the wife spelling everything out. I liked the guy it happened to and remember him crying over it. I’m not defending him but he was a nice person to me and a good employee.

Now Sheryl Sandberg, widow of Facebook co-founder David Sandberg, whines that male execs don’t want to be alone with women to “mentor” them. DUH.

This happened in my office. They had an ugly breakup but still had to work together. It made staff meetings highly unpleasant. Eventually she quit.
