Compared with President Trump’s disparagement of Haiti and African nations, he said, “You have Wakanda as a place of Afro-futurism, of what African nations can be or what they could have been and still be had colonialism not taken place.”
ROTFLOL! Blame whitey for everything. As if Africa was some lost Atlantis ruined by whitey. Europeans were a major presence in Africa for only 70 years.
I like how the NY Times had to send their black reporter to cover this.
I’m already burned out on superhero movies in general. I’ll take a pass on this one.
If colonialism had not taken place, I hate to think what those countries would be like today. They all seem to start declining once evil whitey’s influence is jettisoned.
At best, this might be worth a view on Netflix, but I won’t risk my person going to a theater with a film that plays to black supremacist fantasies.
I’ve been to Africa, it is NOT A JOKE to say the high point for most of it was when they were Colonies....
When the europeans pulled out, the locals just destroyed everything built for some quick cash, and their countries quickly reverted to little more than what they had been before the colonialists arrived.
The stupid mythos that some blacks want to believe, that whites came and raped africa and ran away when the wealth was gone is NONSENSE!
Who build the railroads? the highways, and all the other things? The colonialists did... and when they left, the natives for the most part tore up the tracks and sold it for scrap.. not understanding that those railways brought opportunity, jobs and growth.
Same thing happened in the west bank and Gaza when the Israeli’s pulled out. The locals ransacked the places and all the infrastructure that had been built was destroyed.
IF you believe Africa would be this grand place had it not been colonized, you have never ever been to Africa.
Its an amazing continent full of immense resources and wealth, run by tribal mentalities, large swaths captive to Islamic beliefs that keep them repressed and broken.
Its not coincidence that South Africa, the place that was made a pariah due to apartheid is still one of the wealthiest nations on the continent. Had the Dutch just fled, and all moved back home in the 60s, it would just be another Chad or Congo...
Africa is not a mess because whites colonized it... its a mess because it hasn’t gotten past its tribal inclinations.
So he's seriously asserting that had European nations not colonized Africa, the people of that continent would have discovered deposits of a fictional element (Vibranium), and used it to build societies more advanced than any on Earth?
He does know that Wakanda doesn’t exist, doesn’t he ?
The Europeans did not hurt Africa by colonizing.
They hurt it by abandoning their colonies.
South Africa and Rhodesia were economic sh*tholes until the Blacks took over from the Whites.
Now they are show pieces of the glory of Black rule.
(not that Whites and other races have much to brag about...they suck too, just happen to be the better looking horses at the glue factory....once infected if the political AIDS called “Liberalism”, a Society flushes itself down the toilet)
And with no element of racism in my comment, it is still another “Black Power - Black people are great, Whites suck” movie that will win all the awards from the critics who hate America, and it will deservedly tank at the Box Office.
The difference is between reality and fiction.
I have nothing against this film and will probably end up seeing it cheap on DVD. It has gotten very good reviews, and from what I have heard it is not a political film, which would be a disaster for Marvel. The danger is from others such as this author trying to smother it in their own politics.
The backstory of Wakanda is that they posess the only "vibranium" mines, and used their money to send their best students to the best schools in the world, who came back and developed a highly advanced technological society.
In the sixties, Star Trek inspired a generation of nerds who wanted to be like Scotty or Spock and went to engineering schools. The result is we are walking around with iPhones wore capable than Kirk had.
If Black Panther inspires black kids to go into technical fields, great. I got no problem with it being inspiring.
All the nitwit hype for this movie seems designed to attract guilty white liberals. The truth is that this is a “black” movie, and it will mostly have a black audience, and any white people who show up will get what they deserve.
Not only is the movie designed to berate white people, but the mostly black audience will likely berate them as well, if not drive them out of the theater. And the conclusion is already foregone.
“White people are racist for not *wanting* to give us money see the movie!”
Pretty much the same deal for the miserable Ghostbusters remake. I think even some of the critics are seeing through this one. Damning with faint praise, or verbose with hidden meanings:
“A bold auteurist twist with an African extravaganza that packs a muscular intensity and challenges as much as it exhilarates.”
‘Auteurist’: “A movie director who has almost total control over their movies.” (So blame the director when it tanks.)
‘African extravaganza’: (A black movie with a big budget.)
‘Muscular intensity’: (A sweaty black movie.)
‘Challenges as much as it exhilarates’: (Attacks white people while blowing their stuff up.)
Africa was a paradise lost because of the white devils concocted by a black scientist long ago. Nation of Islam preaches this race hate still today.
In 50 years guilt tripping “liberals” will insist that Wakanda is real and not a fantasy.
