Are you allowed guns in Russia? Found this information.

Individuals are not allowed to carry guns acquired for self-defense; a license only serves as a carrying permit for hunting and sport firearms when these guns need to be transported. Russian citizens may not own guns that shoot in bursts or have magazines with more than a ten-cartridge capacity.

This information is outdated. As I understand it, the law was amended a couple of years ago to allow anyone who had a permit to own a weapon to carry it for self defense.

In the Soviet days you could own a pitch fork. Anything else was probably too much an inconvenience for the Chekas that wanted to kill you.

Got to wonder how much the growth of the Russian mafia contributed to that.

Regardless, good for them!

Who decides who can and who cannot have a permit?

Beware of propaganda that might appear in discussions and from state-owned propaganda outlets. Search around. Imagine, carrying a rifle with a 31-inch barrel on it. Yeah, baby!

Overview of gun laws by nation
Wikipedia
Russia
Russian citizens over 18 years of age can obtain a firearms licence after attending gun-safety classes and passing a federal test and background check. The licence is for five years and may be renewed. Firearms may be acquired for self-defense, hunting, or sports activities. Carrying permits may be issued for hunting firearms licensed for hunting purposes. Initially, purchase is limited to smooth-bore long-barred firearms and pneumatic weapons with a muzzle energy of up to 25 joules (18 ft⋅lbf). After five years of shotgun ownership, rifles may be purchased. Handguns are generally not allowed. Rifles and shotguns with barrels less than 800 mm (31 in) long are prohibited, as are firearms that shoot in bursts and have more than a 10-cartridge capacity. Suppressors are prohibited. An individual cannot possess more than ten guns (up to five shotguns and up to five rifles) unless they are part of a registered gun collection.[90]

What are your thoughts on....

“Russian citizens may not own guns that shoot in bursts or have magazines with more than a ten-cartridge capacity.”

Maybe the Russians are on the right track. Do we need these type of guns and if so, for WHAT PURPOSE ?

Just as I thought, the Democrats are trying as hard as insanely possible to turn America into Russia.

“Just as I thought, the Democrats are trying as hard as insanely possible to turn America into Russia.”

Not in all ways. Russia today protects their kids against gay recruitment.

I figure most of America would need high capacity magazines and auto fire if it was available if Hitlery Clinton had successfully purchased the crown of America.

The number one purpose of the Second Amendment is to keep the government at least pretending to not have a secret police state. It is also to keep them remembering that term limits if not enforced by ballots will be enforced with bullets.

Just listen to the rhetoric from the left right now, wishing that all white people were dead along with police and Christians. The ONLY thing keeping them in check is the second Amendment.

Funny thing about the Constitution, it is plain text. When a “Federal Judge” interprets the Constitution to say what it plainly does not say, that falls under the heading of an unlawful order. I am not going to argue with him, but I am not going to think his “legal opinion” is worth a hill of beans.

You know the only difference between Judicial Slavery and freedom?

My and all the other American battle rifles out there. Don’t tread on me means something.

I AM your freedom. Me and a hundred million more like me.

That is why “big clips” and “scary” black rifles. To keep evil men in line. The rifles have to be scary, so that we never have to shoot them. Rotten governments don’t kill kids a dozen at a time, they kill people in the MILLIONS. I am not going to freak out about some jerk on prozac, I am far more worried about some FBI on socialism.

I said “insanely” possible. Protecting kids from perverts is a no brainer for anybody sane.

To fight back against government forces that will be sent to take them away the next time we get an Obama or a Hillary.

The following is from a comment posted to “Russian Forums: Master Russian.” I had to remove the Cyrillic text (username) to avoid a formatting problem.

Notice the definition for “self-defense weapons” (rubber bullets only).

Gun laws and regulations in Russia

Members of public are allowed to own these categories of firearms:

1. Shotguns (and air-rifles from 3 to 25 joules of muzzle power)
2. Rifles (after 5 years long term of owning a shotgun and 5 years long membership in a hunting cooperative)
These two categories mean shoulder guns.

3. “Self-defense weapons” Those are gas pistols and so-called traumatic guns which fire a rubber bullet using a light charge of gunpowder.

No handguns, automatic fire and such.

Licences.
Buying a gun requires obtaining a licence from the police. Anyone starting from 18 years of age can obtain a shotgun or a self-defense weapons licence if he/she meets those criterias:

- not in file as a drug addict/alcoholic
- not in file as mentally ill
- no criminal record
- health certificate
- no certain misdemeanours comitted (such like misuse of firearms)
- that person passed an exam (on legal issues and firearm handling).
- good character report from the neighbourhood police inspector
- a steel gun safe. (very often they require it to be fixed to a wall)

The rifle license requires the same plus 5 years long owning of a hunting smoothbore licence

There are these types of licences:

1. Hunting smoothbore /air powered weapons - this requires joining a hunting cooperative before applying to the police. Hunting cooperatives require an applicant to pass an exam. One with such licence can keep a weapon at home, wear it in hunting/sports grounds and transport it elsewhere. A gun being transported must be unloaded, upholstered, ammo stored separately.

2. Self-defense smoothbore /air powered weapons. One with this licence can keep a weapon at home.

3. Rifle licence. Same as hunting smoothbore weapons’ licence carry/storing/transporting regulations plus annual forensic shoot-off.

4. Self-defense weapons. One can carry such a weapon everywhere except certain places.

All the licences must be renewed in 5 years. One can buy up to 5 pieces of weapons of each category. Cold weapons can be bought by hunting licence holders.

Ammo.
Ammo can be bought according to the caliber in your licence. That is a 0.308Win rifle owner cannot buy 30-06 cartridges. Gun dealers log ammo purchases.

Shotgun shells can be legally reloaded (powder is sold by the gun dealers). Rifle cartridges - a legal uncertainity with them, rifle powder cannot be found on sale. However, rifle owners disassemble factory cartridges to get the powder and load imported shells with it and imported bullets Those ones are bought mainly in the US web-shops.

There are private security firms.
They can rent (previously could own) handguns from the police. The handguns are limited in muzzle power - 300 J.
