It appears snowflake Trudeau has weakened Canada’s winter Olympics prowess.

Stun a bunch of also ran players some of whom didn’t even make it in the NHL? Right.

OAR is Russia. But Russia is being punished for cheating, so they can’t play as Russia.

A day ago, Canada’s women’s hockey was bitterly disappointed to win “only” win silver, and now their men’s hockey team can do no better than bronze.

Also, no medals for Canada in mens or womens curling, which is largely considered “their “ sport.

Is it Canada vs. Czech Republic for bronze, or do they both get a bronze medal?

As said in prior thread, I have a soft spot for Russian hockey and the historic Soviet hockey team led by led by Slava Fetisov even though they were before my time...

But I feel that there should be no “OAR” - that individuals (like figure skaters who did not participate in Sochi) should be allowed, but have competed under their own names — not the umbrella of this “OAR” nonsense.

Alas: Putin and the head of the IOC are good friends. So no outright ban was ever in the works to begin with.

I feel that an outright ban on athletes appearing as a team for a group-sport like hockey would have been warranted and fair though.

Not only does Russia have professional “KHL” players (which is fine) - but also a former NHL player who was sent back to Russia due to charges of domestic violence: choking/beating his wife. :(

Yes another “collusion” story but not a conspiracy here: A ban for Russia was never in the cards.

One of the greatest hockey games ever was the Red Army team versus The Broad Street Bullies in 1976.

“It appears snowflake Trudeau has weakened Canada’s winter Olympics prowess.”

As much as I dislike Trudeau, the truth is that the NHL is the culprit here.

There was a famous Canadian hockey player named Oar. Orr was it something else?

I didn't know Germany's and Russia's men's hockey teams had NHL players. Doesn't Canada have them?

“Doesn’t Canada have them?”

Not on their Olympic team. The NHL refused to adjust their schedule to allow players to join their respective national teams. The Canadians are competing without their best players.

The Germans vs. the Russians in the final will be a slugfest, but not quite as “expressive” as the slugfest of 1941 - 1945.
