Here’s Why CNN Is Always Playing at the Airport

By  • 02/14/18 2:30pm

This isn’t another conspiracy, Tucker Carlson. YouTube

Controversy follows Tucker Carlson wherever he goes. He’s often been accused of spewing “flat out racist” immigration rants on his Fox News show.

But on rare occasions, Carlson’s invective can lead viewers to interesting insights.

Case in point: in his final segment on last night’s show, Carlson railed againstairports that play CNN in their waiting areas.

“Everyone’s watching CNN,” he said. “They don’t have a choice.”

Carlson, a former CNN host himself, said the decision “may have made sense 20 years ago, when CNN had a centrist reputation.”

But now, he contends, the channel is simply home to “wacky Russia conspiracy theories” and “strange spiritual advice from philosopher-poet Chris Cuomo.”

“Airports feel like a lesser version of hell with dirty seats, overpriced food and propaganda posing as news on CNN,” Carlson said.

So what gives?

Well, it turns out CNN pays 47 airports to air its channel. It also reimburses them for the televisions, cable connections and maintenance.

And CNN doesn’t skimp. Carlson said the network pays Miami International Airport $150,000 a year to play on its TVs.

This may have been news to Carlson, but CNN Airport (as the terminal service is called) has actually been around since 1992.

The travel-sized version of CNN features general news, weather, travel tips and stock market updates.

Sports are also a much bigger part of CNN Airport than the regular channel. The service broadcasts full-length NFL, NBA, MLB and NCAA men’s basketball games and tournaments.

Like its Atlanta-based parent, CNN Airport broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But since it caters to travelers, it doesn’t show graphic, sexually explicit or violent videos.

CNN Airport also doesn’t show video of air disasters, which must’ve made things difficult during CNN’s constant coverage of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370.

But of course, Carlson didn’t include any of that detail. He ended the show by playing the whole thing off as a joke with his fellow co-host Sean Hannity.

“You can’t pay me to watch CNN,” Hannity declared.

Classic Fox News: getting this close to an insight before pivoting to jokes about fake news.

The question is. How do you get CNN out of the US airposts. The answer has to be that someone like FOX or Breitbart has to set up a rival airport service to break the CNN monopoly. Currently there is no other TV airport service besides CNN. But maybe someone else knows better. Maybe someone knows of a conservative airport service that needs promotion.

Where does CNN get the money?

Actually, it comes from you. CNN is funded by the STATE DEPARTMENT. In other countries, CNN is funded by whatever version of the Department of State they have.

This TVgone remote actually worked. I tried years ago before the iphone was out. Just sit down in front and point and shut off and watch heads explode.

What’s the difference between this and Payola? When I was a youngster folks got in trouble for paying to have their records played. Here CNN is paying to have a captive audience.

He doesn’t have to. We’ve all seen how CNN slips it progressive messages into everything, sports, weather, market updates, especially when transitioning from one segment to another.

CNN: “And that’s the weather wrapup for this hour. Now we hear from XYZ on how the Trump administration is denying the climate change consensus of 99.785483% of all scientists in recorded history. Over to you Chris!”

Check your cable or satellite bill. As long as CNN remains in the “basic service tier” they get paid for every single subscriber, no matter whether they watch CNN or support it’s advertizers or not. Same with ESPN.

I ran across a public document a while ago from MSP airport (Minneapolis). CNN Airport pays them $200k (IIRC), and supplies the monitors and maintenance too.

This is probably a pretty standard deal at the big airports.

Also note that CNN Airport is not exactly the same as regular cable CNN.

Same with Good Morning America. All it is is background noise in airports, hotels, and restaurants. But more and more, I see people in hotels and restaurants telling staff, “Turn that sh!+ off, I’d rather watch bowling.”

I only wish what Carlson brought to our attention, somebody from the Trump administration, who watches Foxnews, maybe even Trump himself, would bring it to the forefront. Maybe even do something about it. It needs legs.

It gags me when traveling by air, to have CNN fake news at every monitor throughout every airport!

They tried to pull this crap with talk radio and it didn’t work. Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, among others, were fully onboard with Ted Cruz because they were paid to. That’s why those guys are dead to me. They don’t do what’s right for the country or conservatism anymore, they’re on sale to the highest bidder.

Our little airport in Idaho Falls has FOX News on in the boarding area. The only airport I have ever been to with FOX.

I always figured CNN sends people around to airports to count passengers in the boarding areas and then includes this number in their ratings. How else can they explain anyone watching their crap, other than the relatives of people on air?

Can you show proof of that?

First, Airports pay CNN. Who funds the airports ?

Second, the government funds Time-Warner. CNN is a unit of Time-Warner.

CNN Journalist ‘Governments Pay Us To Fake News’, Shocking Exposé

Mitt Romney Is Wrong. CNN Does Receive Government Funding. Foreign Government Funding From Bahrain. Remove CNN's airport monopoly and tax-payer funded broadcast.

The Real Russia. Today. Moscow might ban CNN and other U.S. media outlets; Russia's transgender community gets some good news; and Roskomnadzor creates a new department to fight Internet anonymizers

“It’s time to stop this taxpayer funded propaganda!”

CNN and the business of state-sponsored TV news
