Is America Preparing for a Nuclear War with China?

Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin unveiled several new nuclear weapons last week in a replay of the Cold War. China, meanwhile, is continuing a similar buildup of high-technology strategic nuclear forces that remains largely hidden from view.

Chinese secrecy about its nuclear forces and their use was a major theme of the Pentagon’s recently completed Nuclear Posture Review that outlined a new “tailored deterrence” policy for China.

The new plan is aimed at persuading Chinese leaders to avoid military miscalculations – like provocative actions in the South China Sea, or hostile activities related to Taiwan or Japan – that could quickly escalate into a nuclear exchange.

In the event of nuclear war with China:

1. Stay Clear of all Windows.

2. Keep Hands Free of Glass, Bottles, Cigarettes, Etc.

3. Stand Away From Desks, Tables, Windows, and Furniture.

4. Loosen Necktie, Unbutton Coat And Any Other Restrictive Clothing.

5. Remove Glasses and Empty Pockets of all Sharp Objects such as Pens, Pencils, Etc.

6. Immediately Upon Seeing Brilliant Flash of Nuclear Explosion, Bend Over and Place Your Head Firmly Between
Your Legs.

7. Then Kiss Your Ass Goodbye.

Bill Gertz has been warning us about China the sleeping dragon since the Clinton Years.

Trouble is everybody is focused on Russia, Russia, Russia.

Is America Preparing for a Nuclear War with China?

This is a silly question. Other than the eight gap years, where we didn't have a real President, the United States has been preparing for a nuclear war with China and/or Russia for many decades. That is as it should be. "If you want peace, prepare for war."

Is a shooting war between the USA and either Russia or China likely? Nope. Not as long as we are even reasonably prepared.

W Bush had many failures as a president, but in 2007, most analyses claimed the US had the capability to destroy Russia and China, with limited damage to us, if one of them struck first.

Is that advantage now lost, 10 years later?

The “news” is focused on Russia - you can bet the President and the military he leads are not disconnected...

The Obama years were devastating to our military in general and to our nuclear forces and missile defense programs in particular

After Iraq, it became clear to Russia they could not compete with conventional forces so the focused on upgrades to their tactical and strategic nuclear forces which is ominous.

They are structuring their military to go nuclear early with small micro tactical nuclear weapons in any future conflict since they cannot afford the across the board to upgrade for next generation warfare

The Chinese have made quantum leaps in advanced military capability over the last 10 years

Well, if ‘limited damage’ is the destruction of every major population center and every significant military installation combined with inceneration of 160 000 000 million Americans.... Yes.

Yep - in the 2000s the “limited damage” part was still bad - but our deterrent was full and total. Not so much anymore, apparently.
