NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY could ever call me a Never Trumper. In fact, I was perhaps one of the very first Trump supporters on this forum.
However, by using his Executive Order to ban bump-stocks as machine guns -- despite the fact that they STILL PULL ONE TRIGGER FOR ONE ROUND BEING FIRED -- he has just done something in an extra-judicial manner.
Despite the clear language of the law that defines automatic weapons -- that one trigger pull discharges multiple rounds continuously -- his EO causes the language to be ignored.
Now, I get that Trump bashed the NRA, then met with them the next day. I get that. That’s chicken feed for the liberals and RINOs.
BUT
Trump banned bump stocks pretty much by Executive Order.
DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THAT MEANS?
It means the first Democrat who gets elected will ban ALL SEMIAUTOS by Executive Order. All they have to do, with this precedent, is show someone firing a semi-auto in a bump-fire method using a pants belt-loop. Voila: It's a full-auto. Therefore, it can be EO'd away.
The right thing to have done was to encourage / demand the House give him a bump stock ban bill. Then get it through the Senate. Then sign it.
But by doing what he just did, he made it possible for Dems to EO firearms away.
“Stroke of a pen, law of the land,” was never meant to happen in the USA.
But POTUS had a great meeting with the NRA, both sides said so. I don’t think Trump’s doing anything he didn’t put through them.

The only way he can save his position with us Second Amendment types is to announce his EO went too far, and he knows it will be struck down — and demand the House and Senate send him a Bump Stock Ban bill.
The NRA just gave away Semi’s, then.

I agree. This is rewriting the constitution and legislating by EO. The constitution says shall not be infringed. Want to infringe, rewrite the 2nd amendment.

It does not impact the purchase of firearms.
The NRA hasn’t always had a well-thought out position in some respects. They are VERY political, and are willing to give in on certain positions in order to safeguard other things.
It remains to be seen if this compromise was a good one. I agree with the previous poster that it opens the door to the idea that any semi-auto can be turned into a “machine gun” easily - ergo, the semi-autos need to be banned.
Of course I’m being sarcastic, Laz. As you know, Trump is my fried egg on toast, as in, “I would vote for a fried egg on toast over Hillary Clinton.” I just get these crazy fits where I channel the true believers in Dear Leader.
Time to hold Trump’s feet to the fire, whether he likes it or not.

The bump-stock is not the gun, so a future president would have to ban pant belt-loops by executive order.
I’m pretty sure I was the first and that said I think you are correct in this assessment.
I voted for President Trump because I trust his judgement. I trust him in this case. And yes something has to be done, we live in a different society now. We can’t have kids getting guns. Your argument falls on deaf ears when people’s children are being killed at school. Armed guards, banning bump stocks, and raising age limit are reasonable changes. And remember, I have more money in my pay check now, ISIS is DEAD, border being defended, God is back in our country, and many many more good things have happened in the last 14 months. I will forever support this great man.
