At some point next month, just in time for Spring, Microsoft will start to emit the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update to everyone's PC.
Avid Reg readers will be aware of what's forthcoming for the Redmond operating system. If you're just tuning in, well, see the aforementioned link, and strap in for these highlights. When the OS upgrade is released proper, we'll be on the scene with the full details. In the meantime, here's your need to know:
Exactly when this update codenamed Red Stone 4, aka version 1803 will land, and what's actually in it, is anyone's guess right now as Microsoft is being coy about the final change log. The software is largely expected to roll out from April 10, that being the month's Patch Tuesday.
Our advice? Hold off until the initial bugs are ironed out, and the exact feature list is cemented in. Alternatively, grab betas from the Windows Insider stream of updates and play with it to your heart's content. ®
About two weeks ago, my windows ten update started freezing at 82%. I had to turn off my pc and let it restore to the previous version. Takes a couple of hours.
I now have to be careful to turn off the wi-fi access every time I leave the computer or it will, at some point, try to complete that update and fail.
I need to turn off the auto update, or I can just hope this one works.
Seems like BOHICA. Why does it seem as the years go by, the contents of updates from MS and Apple get less interesting and more annoying?
If you work in marketing at Microsoft you are living a charmed life.
You can be as lazy, foolish and obnoxious as you like because your means of convincing the public about new ‘features’ is to force them down users’ throats.
It’s fair to say that MS have always been an imitator not an innovator but they have really lost their way with all the Hobson’s choices they’ve been offering.
Somebody can walk past your computer and download everything you’ve done for the last 30 days.
What’s not to like?
I had some issues where it said I had to update my BIOS to get the update to work - had to hunt it down through the manufacturer site but did it and it hasn’t hiccuped since.
Yes. I found a fix for mine too. At least one that is apparently supposed to work, but have not had the time to implement. It’s springtime in KY. I’m grading my driveway, mowing my five acre lawn and building trails in my woods. This computer stuff is for wintertime.
A month or two ago, whenever I booted up my computer it would open up to Internet Explorer and go to my home page. It would also open up my last Word document I was working on. Anybody know how to turn that feature off?
“Timeline”
Apparently, the govt is not satisfied with a website history.
I don't like the sound of that. But, I only use Win10 for work so, no biggie. Let 'em look. It's Linux for me at all other times.
I just tell Windows that the Network Connection is metered and so it won’t auto-update.
Startup?
Thanks. That’s a real time saver!
I just did it. It did warn me that some stuff will act differently. We’ll see.
Though it will take a while, I've become convinced that in general the safest way to communicate is with "snail mail."
I already have 10. I really like it - for the most part.
All I know is that every time Windows 10 updates, my 8 year old laptop works better and faster.
I’ve run Linux on it, and, still do occasionally, but, it doesn’t run as good as W10 does now.
I’ll let the update run.
Win 10 stopped running(blue screen all the time) on my 2 Dell C521s after the Creators Update ,LOL
