North Carolina City Officials Reject Plan For Monument Honoring Soviet Aviators
RFE/RL ^ | Mar 2018 | Associated Press

The Russian Ministry of Defense is looking to install the 25-ton monument in Elizabeth City, which is the near the headquarters of a secret WWII mission called "Project Zebra," in which hundreds of Soviet aviators were trained at a time when U.S. and Soviet forces were allied in the fight against the Nazis.

But the Elizabeth City council voted 5-3 on March 23 against a previously signed memorandum of understanding.

If the plan had come to fruition, the Russian Defense Ministry would have paid for the monument, with the city then covering some $228,000 for improvements to the park where it would be installed.

And lots of Russian men, including those who fought in the war, did NOT because they were sent to Stalin's Gulag camps afterward.

And they're still fighting that demographic hit.

For decades after the war, Russian men were expected to cheat on their wives and girlfriends and it's tolerated even today.

It's one of the big differences those mail order brides talk about that in America a cheating husband is actually frowned upon.

Americans and America owes nothing to the Soviet Army, nor its tyrannical Marxist oppression.

No. That’s not their intent whatsoever.

To your other comment. Indeed it’s worth reading this book. A fellow freeper recommended it to me:

How about a monument honoring Soviet submarines.

They could make it glow in the dark just like the actual Soviet submariners who served on their nuke subs.

I hate to see little towns doing Hillary’s work of hating the Russians.

Lots of Poles, Ukranians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Serbians, didn’t get to live to be grandfathers because of the Soviet Army, which enslaved half of Europe.

As I stated above:

The U.S. is better off erecting monuments to exemplary Soviet defectors and refugees...

Russians who moved to America contributed enormously to our cultural life. And some of them were even more patriotic than Americans themselves. Precisely because of what they had left behind. NYC Ballet founder George Balanchine being one.

Soviet Communism, Nazi Socialism, Japanese Imperialism, and Italian Fascism should have all been eradicated at the same time. I would have no ill feelings generally for the people but the governments were evil and direct threats to America. Being allies with the Communists was disgusting but I am looking through the lens of history 73 years or so later.

We didn’t declare war on Nazi Germany, Hitler declared war on us. But even if the US had wanted to let Germany and the USSR just bleed each other for a couple more years... oh wait, that is effectively what happened. From Dec. 11, 1941 to June 5, 1944 we had no major army in Europe.

Not suggesting we should have tried any Operation Overlord any sooner, simply pointing out that the Russians did nearly all of the bleeding in Europe for a couple of years.

Hell no, we don’t need any tribute to Soviet military on our soil. Remember, the Iron Curtain, Poland, Hungary,Berlin wall, Stalin etc. and all their scum.

This is from the pen of a Russian citizen to his OWN people written just a few months ago. Can we please heed his advice?

Let us direct all of our energy and authority towards discrediting the whole “Bolshevik ideology,” let us talk frequently and freely about the crimes against humanity committed by Lenin and Stalin, and by the entire communist party.

Let us speak more and more often about the fact that the memorials to Lenin that stand all over Russia are commemorating a murderer. In doing this, it is important not to dishonor the memory of those who gave their lives in service to the motherland and its people.

However, the popular idea that it was Stalin who won World War II must be overthrown. The Russian people, just like the peoples of Europe, were the victims of the inhumane machine of Hitlerism and Stalinism. Stalin did not win the war, he built victory with the bodies of millions of people, our fathers and grandfathers, who truly accomplished heroic deeds, but we must not forget that many of them went into combat faced with the muzzles of Russian automatic machine guns.

This is worth talking about as well, as much as possible. World War II – that great human tragedy, which our current government uses as bait for the hook that the Russian people has swallowed.

It hurts me that on May 9, instead of silence and shame, we have death machines rolling across Red Square, and the standard-bearers of the ruling regime stand next to the unburied corpse of Lenin and raise, in the eyes of the citizens, their political ratings, all the while calling it patriotism.

I don’t give Stalin (may in burn in he’ll for eternity) the credit, but the fact is that the German armed forces were bled very badly on the Eastern front for nearly 3 years before the western Allies were able to put very many dozens of divisions into battle in France. That is all I was saying.

Hitler declared war on America after Pearl harbor. Staying out was not an option.

How about a pedestal topped with a Soviet T-34 tank honoring the Red Army’s “liberation” of Eastern Europe?

Would make about as much sense.

Served them right for enabling Hitler in 1939. Signing the pact with Hitler to divide Poland is the reason Hitler was confident enough to begin WW2 when he did. Sometimes tyrants reap what they sow.
