WASHINGTON — Vietnam war veterans were among the hundreds who gathered at the war’s memorial wall Thursday — National Vietnam War Veterans Day — to honor those who served.

Pat Shanahan, deputy defense secretary; Thomas Bowman, deputy secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Elaine Duke, deputy homeland security secretary, spoke at the event.

The secretaries thanked the veterans for their service and paused to remember more than 58,000 service members who never made it back. They laid a wreath at the wall during the ceremony, and all observed a moment of silence to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

No mention in the Seattle MSMLSD bunch - as far as I can find. It’s probably hidden on the Z section page 900 of the Seattle Times.

Our local DAR hostessed a reception and ceremony this afternoon and it was well-attended. It was very moving.

And thank you so much for serving our country. Your efforts and sacrifices are appreciated more than you may realize.

Vietnam was so long ago and I still have good and bad memories.

The memories will never go away, but they do fade over time.

I am happy that I was able to connect with some old Vietnam Army buddies from FB. That has been awesome, we have exchanged memories and pictures and have stayed in touch.

Our war, our time, our memories.

So long ago.

I have several friends who fought in Vietnam and they all say pretty much the same thing. Sadly, y'all have the added memories of crummy homecomings. It's something I haven't been able to forgive liberals for and probably never will.

Awesome that you've been able to reconnect with some of your Army buddies. Nice to have friends who can relate - know exactly where you're coming from. Those of us who weren't there can never fully understand.
