AUGUSTA, Ga.—One of the most memorable duels in recent golf history is set for a rematch on Sunday. Only this time, instead of going head-to-head at the Ryder Cup, Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy will be in the final pairing on the final day of the Masters.
Less than two years after beating his European rival in a thrilling singles match to lead the U.S. to victory at Hazeltine, Reed will attempt to hold off McIlroy and a handful of other challengers at Augusta National. At 14 under par for the tournament, Reed will tee off with a three-shot lead.
It will be hard for them to match the sheer intensity of their meeting in the 2016 Ryder Cup, where they taunted and hollered at one another to a degree rarely seen in golf. But the outcome on Sunday has greater implications for both their individual careers.
With his first green jacket, McIlroy, a 28-year-old four-time major champion, would complete the career grand slam. Reed, a 27-year-old from Texas, would join the ranks of golf’s elite young players, years after he drew ridicule by declaring himself a top-5 player.
“I’m really excited to go out there tomorrow and show everyone what I’ve got—show Patrick Reed what I’ve got,” McIlroy said. “All the pressure is on him tomorrow. I’m hoping to come in and spoil the party.”

Yep, nothing can match that 2016 match-up. But this should still be fun.
In his interview, Patrick Reed doesn’t know why he is so disliked by so many. Let us count the ways, but how about starting with his cheating in college golf and removal from the team and then go on to the treatment of his parents, who his wife had removed by police from a tournament. Quite a story which makes it very difficult to “judge him strictly on his game” as he suggests. GO RORY!

Seems a safe prediction, given the course and history. Rory flirted with it Saturday with the shot into the azaleas and had a nice recovery from there. It ought to be entertaining.

Watch on Masters.com. No ads. In addition to live play, there are individual hole videos of almost every player and interviews. There are videos of the leaders like “Rory McIlroy round 3 in under three minutes.” Today should be fun.
This is a great masters and Rory is really playing well. Both are great players and will be interesting to see if Reed can continue on Sunday.
They did no tmention Tiger Woods in the story. Racism, pure and simple.
I’m not cheering for either of them but they are playing great golf. It was hard to step away from the TV yesterday. I’d love to see Ricky Fowler snatch the victory.

There has been an ongoing very public feud with his parents since he married his nutty wife, prior to that he was dismissed from his college team for cheating. She has caddied for him, (now her brother does) she has jointly held trophies with him, she has fueled the fire with his parents with her unsubstantiated accusations. Several years ago, his parents who have been completely cut off from him, took some tickets from friends to go to a tournament he was in, on the 18th hole, Reeds wife called security/police and had them removed, many said they were doing nothing but watching. This is all well known news reported by legitimate news organizations.
You can pick your friends but you can’t pick your family. He is playing some amazing golf and especially on the greens as he had two eagles yesterday. Doubt he has many more of those since one was pure luck, the other was a long putt after a great approach.
