‘Tell my mom that I love her if I die,' teen pleads as van seat fatally crushes him

CINCINNATI - Two 911 calls show that a Cincinnati teenager pleaded for help as he was crushed to death by the seat in his van Tuesday afternoon in a parking lot near his school.

Kyle Jacob Plush, 16, was found dead by his father about six hours after he made the first 911 call, according to WCPO in Cincinnati. A preliminary autopsy report indicated that he died of asphyxia due to compression of his chest.

His death was ruled accidental.

“At this time, there is no indication of foul play or evidence of a drug overdose,” Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco said in a written statement. “Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Kyle.”

Sammarco’s statement did not offer details of how Plush was crushed, but Honda in November recalled 800,000 Odyssey minivans because the vehicle’s second row seats can tip forward if not properly latched. The recall was for vans from 2011 to 2017.

Yikes. Six hours, and no help.

A heart crushing story, but I’m being charitable in saying that the article is half-baked — at best.

Two calls to 911 and he couldn’t get rescued?

Yes, what a terrible situation. Seems like the police could have tried a little harder to locate him?

We had an officer burst in (as in, he was in a hurry, energetic) to our office this morning, said they had a 9-1-1 call that had hung up, and they were trying to locate the person, whom he named.

At least they were trying to track it down, not sure why our office building was targeted.

Plush got disconnected about six or seven minutes after he placed his first call. Officers who were dispatched when that call ended tried calling him back, but the call went to voicemail.

When they did not get a response, the officers marked their assignment complete, the WCPO timeline said.

What the hell??!!

Nice pat on the back you gave yourself there for being what you think is charitable.

By the way, your not even close to being funny + I would say closer to being somewhat of a douche than charitable

“This is not a joke. I’m trapped inside my gold Honda Odyssey van in the parking lot of Seven Hills Hillsdale.”

Those are pretty good instructions, IMHO. The fact the local cops marked the job "complete" a couple times indicates some pretty severe incompetence.

Wow...how awful. That poor kid. What in the world might have happened? This is just too weird.

I don't understand this at all. My truck broke down and the roadside assistance was able to find me, I wasn't lost, by my cell phone. Immediately!! If they knew what this kid's vehicle looked like it should have been no problem to find him quickly.

Something don't seem right.

I didn’t understand that either.

The police dispatchers (and officers) must be lazy, incompetent, or both.

I read about this last night in a report that raised so many questions that I went to several other articles to see if I could find out more information. This article is the most complete of all that I’ve seen, yet it still leaves so much unanswered. This poor boy was aware for a very long time that he was going to die if no one came to his aid.

My reaction too, 6 hours after a 911 call, his dad has to find him dead in the parking lot (school?)? Massive law suits should come from this. Prayers to the family.

A quick google-earth search of of the school parking lot indicates that when full, it has room maximum about 100 cars.

Kid calls twice. Is on line with 911 for total of 9 minutes, Says location where he’s located. Describes his car color, make and model.

All I can say is - this is government at its finest.

Here's another story: Timeline: What happened to Kyle Plush, teen found dead inside van at Seven Hills School

Excerpt:

Here's a timeline of what unfolded:

3:16 p.m. Plush calls 911
3:23 p.m. Call ends, and dispatcher assigns first unit to respond
3:26 p.m. First unit arrives on scene
3:37 p.m. Officers call back Plush’s phone and got voicemail; their assignment is marked complete
3:48 p.m. Deputy checks again
8:56 p.m. Passerby calls 911
8:58 p.m. Duplicate calls come in*
8:59 p.m. Dispatch advises a missing child was found in a vehicle -- Police and ambulance requested
9:11 p.m. Hamilton County officials put up crime scene tape
9:42 p.m. Officials direct traffic away from scene
11:55 p.m. Cincinnati Police Department closes incident
12:19 a.m. Criminal Investigations Section clears scene

So the cops looked twice, couldn't find him, so just marked the assignment complete. What incompetence.
