Harry Anderson, an actor who starred as the kindhearted, zany Judge Harry Stone on the long-running NBC comedy “Night Court,” was found dead early Monday at his home in Asheville, N.C. He was 65.
The Asheville Police Department, which confirmed the death, did not release a cause but said no foul play was suspected. Turk Pipkin, a longtime friend, said Mr. Anderson was hospitalized with the flu a few months ago and had remained sick.
Mr. Anderson, who spent nine seasons presiding over a fictional Manhattan courtroom that played host to a steady stream of oddballs, was nominated for three consecutive Emmys, from 1985 to 1987.

If anyone remember the original version of Stephen King’s “IT” for TV, he was one of the adults who survived Pennywise, the evil clown and coincidentally, became a Hollywood comedian in the series. Great performance.

Night Court was a very entertaining series. It is being rerun on Antenna TV, I believe.
I always thought Night Court was a cute little show.
John Larroquette was great. Richard Moll, who played Bull, was bizarre but sweet. I remember how odd it was that Selma Diamond and Florence Halop who played essentially the same character - the cranky old lady who kept Bull in line - both died of lung cancer in real life after playing their roles for only one or two seasons each. And I always thought Markie Post was one of the cutest all-American women on TV in the late 1980s.
His needle in the arm trick was the best I have ever seen - he kept saying “this is not real its a trick” and you could only believe your eyes

Selma was on for about the first two seasons until her passing in May 1985. I recall how closely around that time, Nicholas Colasanto (Coach from Cheers) and Dolph Sweet (Chief Kanisky from Gimme A Break) also died. Flo Halop was on for only one season before her passing in July 1986 (terminal cancer and also massive stroke).
He was a man of limited talent, who used his successful sitcom to push his hatred of Ronald Reagan and Republicans and conservatives in general.

I find it hard to believe he was only 65. Wasn’t he playing a judge in the 70s? Was he onliy 25 at the time?
I guess the show was in the 80s, not 70s. I didn’t watch it much, so forget the time frame. So, 65 is possible, although still young for the part he was playing then.
I enjoyed the show and Markie was great eye candy.
An actual person (as hard as that is to believe), not a character on Harry's series ...
I hadn’t known that until my son told me. Horror films aren’t my thing.
I still enjoy reruns of Night Court.

The whole show was superbly cast.
What a great collection of misfits.
Harry Anderson the man had the same hopeful outlook on life that Judge Stone did.
During Katrina he refused to evacuate until the local FD told him they were bugging out.
He tried to help rebuild NO but was beat down by the politics.
Richard Moll, Aristotle Nostradamus Shannon, was filming a sci-fi flick and had shaved his head. The NC producers loved the look so he kept it.
Bull was the lovable gentle giant simpleton who brought a childish sense of humor to the show. How could a bailiff lose a prisoner? Bull could. Wearing glasses with mirrors to see who was sneaking up on him? Bull did it.
No one else could have pulled it off.

John Larroquette played the smarmy butt kissing low moraled ladies man lawyer to a T.
Selma Diamond was in seasons 1 and 2.
Florence Halop was in season 3.
They were the perfect foil to Bull’s childish innocence.
Marsha Warfield was cast as Roz because the producers didn’t want to cast another older woman just to have her leave due to death or bad health.
Charles Robinson, Mac, was the one “normal” person in the cast.
When the show ended Charles quit acting and started directing. Just like Mac wanted to do.
The producers originally wanted Markie Post but she was contracted on The Fall Guy. When that show ended she moved to NC.
It really broke my heart when I found out Markie is a lesbian.
The characters who wandered in and out of Judge Stone’s court room were hilarious.
The show did what a tv show should do. It entertained.
Anderson was born in 1952.
He was 32 when Night Court began in 1984.
