Melania Trump attended the funeral of Barbara Bush on Saturday with two very special guests by her side: private resident staffers who had worked under the former first lady during her eight years in the White House.
Mrs. Trump brought George Hainey, former head Maître Dat the White House, and Buddy Carter, a current butler, to the funeral with her as invited guests, White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham told PEOPLE. She knew they were very close to the Bush family and wanted them to be able to pay their respects.
Bush, who died at 92 on Tuesday, was laid to rest by her large and loving family on the grounds of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Melania, 47, was at the services alongside Bushs family, as well as former presidents and first ladies Barack and Michelle Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton, who were accompanied by their daughter, Chelsea Clinton.
Trump was in Florida on Saturday, where he spent the morning at his West Palm Beach golf club. He then returned to the Trump National Golf Club Mar a Lago to watch the funeral, turning it on just as the first lady was taking her seat, as is protocol beside former President Barack Obama.
Heading to the Southern White House to watch the Funeral Service of Barbara Bush, he wrote on Twitter. First Lady Melania has arrived in Houston to pay our respects. Will be a beautiful day!
Saturdays service, which was by invitation only, was held at the church that Mrs. Bush and her husband attended regularly through the years, according to the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.

Definitely was the classy thing to do. Props to Melania.
Did I miss something? The story says Barbara Bush was in the WH 8 years.
It just seemed like eight years.
I’m sure Michael would have done the same.
12 years in the White House, if you count the time her husband served as VP for Reagan.
Imagine the stores a guy like this could tell.
Malania is one classy lady
Far more class than the Bush family and their “adopted” brother from another mother.
Interesting that Obama who couldn’t say enough bad things about W and blamed W for all of Obama’s failures was invited.
yes and no, the VP and wife don’t live in the White House, they live some distance away in DC. The VP has an office in the West Wing of the WH, but I don’t think the wife of the VP spends a lot of time in the WH except during certain state and ceremonial functions. So Barbara Bush would have had primarily the 4 yrs. Jan. 1989 to Jan. 1993 in the White House.
THe VP’s family lives at the Naval Observatory.
Well she was in the WH 4 years and her son for 8 years so to pay the family respects includes paying respects to the son.
iirc the bushes always stayed at the WH on holidays so the staff and SS could spend time with their families.
20 if you count her son’s time. She may not have lived there when W was the president but I guarantee she was a presence.
Well yeah - either way, the People editor has the weekend off!
Well thanks,I was not aware of that.I’ll have to check it out.
its pretty good, LBJ comes off the worst. He was a pretty bad human being in general...
Behind every great man is a great woman.
