The parents are really the problem. Parents today are so focused on their own needs and wants that they ignore what is best for the kids.

This is a dnc organized movement. In Arizona the RedForED (redforElectDemocrats) got their 20% pay raise for teachers, but will still strike. It’s all about the elections. They are targeting the Governor, School Superintendent, Senate, etc. Using the standard, “it’s all for the children”.

Mass teacher walkouts apparently gave the Libs what they wanted in West Virginia and Oklahoma.

They are going to keep repeating the tactic until it stops working.

This is really about damaging Bevin to the point that he can’t beat McConnell in a primary.

Discipline does not excite in the public schools.

The parents are really the problem.

A majority of moms now work outside the home. Teachers strikes mean they lose their free babysitting and it tosses their lives into all forms of chaos. This is the weak link that Leftists have chosen to hammer on.

Discipline does not excite in the public schools.

I know it never excited me when I was in school. But it proved valuable nonetheless.

Your original comment wasn’t limited to geography. If that’s what you really meant, fine, but I think your experience is a bit unusual.

>>education is something that people should pay for directly

I don’t necessarily disagree with that, however, I’d be happy (for now) if we just made them pay for lunch, school supplies, computers, etc. In our day, the schools supplied the books. Fine. Let them supply the e-books and make the kids bring their own tablet/computer. Our district here used to give out computers but I don’t think they do that any longer. Too costly and not enough return on “investment.”

Keep in mind that (relatively) good schools are a magnet for the community as a whole, so if a community wants young families in single family homes — owned or rented — they need decent schools. If they’re happy with apartments and transient populations, blow the schools off. At any rate, good schools keep property values high(er) so they are at least somewhat worth paying for even if you don’t have kids.

It’s despicable how these “educators” use children to get what they want.

Some of these parents became parents at 17 years old. The teachers have to appeal to parents who are kids themselves.
