Man Dies Attempting Selfie With Bear, Stray Dog Tried To Save Him

A man was mauled to death by a bear after he reportedly tried to take a selfie with the animal, according to The Independent. Prabhu Bhatara spotted the injured animal on his way home from a wedding. He ignored advice from friends who told him it wasn’t a good idea to take a selfie with the bear. It didn’t take long, according to The Independent, for the bear to strike once Bhatara was close. The incident was recorded on a cell phone, with the gruesome footage going viral after hitting the internet. A stray dog also stepped in and bit the bear but its intervention failed to deter the larger animal. Forest ranger Dhanurjaya Mohapatra said Mr Bhatara “died on the spot.” He added: “The bear is being treated for its injuries.”

Selfies with bears became something of a trend in 2014 – so much so that the US Forest Service was forced to warn people not to get so close to the animals, according to paper.

I remember reading recently of a teenager from Taiwan who was mauled by a bison in Yellowstone while taking a selfie with it. Thankfully, she lived. When asked why she did something so foolish, she said, “I didn’t think they’d allow wild animals in a park”.

We all know from watching Yogi Berra on TV that bears are not only friendly, they’re great with funny but wise one-liners. And we know from armchair tree huggers that wild animals almost never attack humans.
